Mounting 50 gallon fuel tank ideas

Hello

I have a 06 fe180 flat deck work truck that I bought a 50 gallon fuel tank for.

It's from a larger hino, rectangular shaped.

I have the original l brackets from the hino I would like to use, but I have to drill new holes in the frame, any ideas on that¿

You should be fine as long as you just don't drill in the upper or lower rails. Depending on what vehicle you have, there are many extra holes drilled into the frame.

Your bodybuilders guide should have 'specs for hole drilling on framerails.
Typically 'specs include max diameter, distance from flanges & adjacent holes and finish such as chamfers, etc.
Dont forget possibility of making adaptor plates to match to existing holes.
Another consideration is allowance for framerails flexing & may affect tank mountings. Maybe thats no problem on your rig. Dunno, I come from Unimog where flexing is allowed for on everything including fueltanks...

I think the 4wd models are quite flexy but the 2wd frames are much stiffer.

Wonder where I could find the body builder manual for my truck

Looks like I found the manuals, thank you.

I looked at building adapters but the tank sticks out from the frame quite a bit, and did not want it sticking out too far.

I also thought about mounting it to my subframe, but was unsure how to mount the tanks l brackets to the subframe. I thought about welding some c channel hanging down from the sub frame to bolt the brackets to but not sure if it would flex to much
