Mounting a Mini-Video camera on the dash

OK. So I've seen a few folks, such as myself, have received one form or another of the new little USB video cameras for Christmas.
Now , how about a mini-tripod or a way to mount it to the dash for those offroad action vids.
I have looked at ebay and there are those new fangled twistey leg ones out, but have neot looked at them upclose. Also, have seen the window clamp tripods , but don't know how well they would hold on to the dash .
Suggestions ?? Sites ??

Thanks,
Matt

look at Ram mounts - I have a camera mount in my Land Rover using parts available from them - I buy them from GPS City

Well, I came up with a cheap mount set up.
Went to Wally-world and found a Targus 6" mini tripod. I was able to slide 2 legs on top of the dash and one against the edge of the dash.
bungie cord attached at the heater vents keeps it tight. Mounted the vieo camera and took it for a test run. Works ok for a cheap set-up.
It'll work until I find something better or it fails...:)

I don't know how well a RAM mount will work on a truck being driven on rough roads. I know they don't work well in race cars.

I have a cheapy cam bolted to a strip of aluminum which is bolted to the dashboard. The rigid mounting can actually be better than a "vibration damping" camera mount, but I wouldn't do it to an expensive camera.

You could Try a Cine Saddle

I like a "Cine Saddle" Here is the link: http://www.cinekinetic.com/

About 4 years ago I purchased the large version and it has served me well but for a canvas bag filled with foam balls I think its expensive.

A couple of years ago I started using smaller cameras and talked my wife into making a smaller size cine saddle. It works great! I can post pictures if anyone is interested.

Here is a video that I shot using the home made Cine Saddle, look for the part showing the interior of the jeep going down the road shots.

Wow i just finished searching for a solution to my on board camera problem.

This is what i found. Not on the dash or windshield but mounted to the headrest...
and i like the field of view better than close to the windshield. The viewer is along for the ride.

make it yourself 10-20$

Super solid !
