Moved up, Sony Alpha 350

My dear wife, who has been dying to get a good camera, just found a used Alpha 350 body, with vertical grip, extra battery, and flash (HVL-F42AM) on CL for $500.

She has also found a buyer for her old Minolta 5D at $200, so for $300 she has significantly upgraded her gear.

Whatta ya think? Did she do as good as I think she did? I'm not a photog, and don't know much about these things.

Of course, she really wanted a T2i, but with me on unemployment, and her pulling down a 'great' nurse's salary...

She's just getting into shooting raw, and post processing, so our hope is that she can learn a lot with the 350, and maybe in a couple of years our situation will be such that we can revisit the state-of-the-art. Plus, with the Sony, she can carry forward the couple of lenses she already has.

I'm actually jealous of the camera, not because it's getting more attention than I am (that's expected :) ) but because it's been to Africa. The guy we got it from bought it for the trip*. Unfortunately he didn't leave any lion and elephant pictures on the CF cards...

The guy we bought it from seemed AR (in a good way). He had all the original boxes and papers, and receipts for purchase and for the professional cleaning had had done after the Africa trip. The camera shows some normal wear, but we're betting it has been babied.

Anyone got a prime they are looking to get rid of cheap? Like really cheap? Donations accepted...

I love my A350, and just got word it has been fixed so I get it back... I dropped it.

The vertical grip would be fun to try, but I really want a super wide angle lens.

You forgot the :wings: ! Congrats!

Her old 5D replaced her Maxxum 35mm that I dropped right at the beginning of our trip to Ephesus :( It really sux when most of your vacation pix were taken on a disposable. Funny thing, she hasn't asked me to hold her camera in about six years...

That made me think, though, Maybe in a couple of years we can get her a top-of-the-line Sony, and this 350 will serve as a good backup...

She probably won't use the vertical grip much, but it might be nice since it holds an extra battery. I might use it (not that I'll be using the camera much) just because I have large hands, and the vertical grip isn't quite as way-to-small.

Sorry, you did very well! CONGRATS

No, no, I meant you forgot the :wings: because you are getting your camera back from repair. And congrats to you on getting it back.

It's so hard to effectively communicate without voice inflection.

Well, that's actually no excuse. I can't seem to effectively communicate using any method... Just ask my wife :)
