MS Streets & Trips on Acer Netbook? PROBLEM SOLVED!

I have an Acer Aspire One netbook that I would like to use with MS Streets & Trips. I'm fairly competent with a computer but FAR from proficient.

I don't have an external DVD/CD drive to load the software and am having problems. I've used my desktop PC to load the disks to a 4 gig memory stick and can load the first disk without a problem. But when I try to load the 2nd (data) disk the wizard asks to re-insert disk 1 and I can't get the computer to recognize the disks through the memory stick. I've even tried to load the disks on two separate memory sticks without success. I have, however, loaded numerous other programs in this same manner without a problem.

I saw this in another thread. I think off-roader was referring to his Acer Netbook when he references "laptop":

FWIW, I'm also running MS Streets & Trips 2009 using the same laptop. Both Topo CA & MS S&T fit on one 8GB Class 6 (i.e. fast) SD card. Since it's pretty much a read only app, I have no fear about wearing out the card prematurely w/ excessive writes.

Would this be a better option? How would I set that up?

Any help you can offer would be appreciated. I'm trying to make this work without spending additional money.

I succeeded in loading a 2002 version of S&T on my One. I tried several things, but I don't recall at the moment which worked:
- set the optical drive on the other computer (in my case an old laptop) to share, and read the CDs from that
- copied the cd images to a stick (.iso), and used Virtual CloneDrive to read them.

Now that you have the software on your memory sticks, insert them and copy the software all to one folder and install from there not the sticks. That should work.

I also have an Acer Aspire One and that's how I install all software and works fine with me. Enjoy it as it is a super net book.

HEY THANKS!

It worked! I combined all the individual files from disk 1 and disk 2 into the same folder and then clicked the disk 1 setup file. The wizard performed a full installation without a hitch. (My earlier mistake was keeping the disk 1 and 2 folders separate. No way I could get the wizard to recognize the 2nd disk.)

Thanks a lot. I also learned today (from an EXPO post) that I could enable the software to invert my screen. Now I can mount my netbook to the roll cage on my TJ and flip the screen down to view.

Thanks EXPO!
