In Las Vegas, a very kind ExPo member and his wife let us camp all over their driveway and use their facilities for a couple of days. How cool are ExPo members? :wings: Thanks guys.
After the simplicity of the desert travel, the excess of Las Vegas was kind of surreal. SEMA was a blast though. I'll leave most of the pic posting to others in SEMA specific threads. We were there more as lookey-loos.
Hot cars.
Hot women.
Big trucks.

After Las Vegas and SEMA we moved on to another place that was quite different from our activities up til this point. We next attended the 30th annual Hump n Bump 4 wheeling event. It encompassed quite a range of vehicles from mild to wild, but lots of big crawlers. Also, most of the folks were kitted out in big RVs. Then there was us in our pup tents and sleeping in our trucks... The folks there couldn't have been nicer and the hospitality was second to none. It was just different from our usual MO.
I don't have many great pics from the first day of trailing. It was a long and slow day. Some of the obstacles proved difficult for some, there were 2 flats, both of which I was behind. And we got off trail once led by yours truly... Doh! I've got an excuse but in the end we didn't get too far off and safely turned everyone around including a big Powerwagon in tight quarters. In all it was a slow day...
That night we were treated to some grade A redneckery in the form of a car crawl. I was dying to get involved but in the end decided that the combo of many miles from home, needing to live out of my vehicle, and several days of trailing still ahead outweighed the potential fun to be had.

These guys however, couldn't have cared less about us.
Hard to tell here, but Jan's son and a friend of his drove from Canada to Vegas to join us with their RHD LC 80's. With the departure of Kirk after SEMA, I was suddenly the odd man out with a petrol burning LHD rig. Ah well, someone had to keep the Canucks in check, eh?

Time to finish this up I suppose. Sorry I've gotten a bit lax lately. Too much holiday prep and work (grrrr).
After Logandale and Hump n Bump there was some discussion of continued trailing in the area with the boys from Canada. In the end though, the boys decided to try a whirlwind tour of N. AZ and S. UT as a route back to Canada. Jan and I headed for AZ at a liesurely pace. We pounded pavement through the Valley of Fire state park to Hoover Dam.
On the way up to Vegas we crossed the newly opened bypass bridge, but it was somewhat of a let down as it is constructed in such a way that you feel like you're just driving along any other stretch of road. This time, we pulled off to see the sites. The dam and bridge has become something of a tourist attraction and we got a close inspection by security to enter the area what with all our gear and jerry cans and such.

A bit more pavement and finally back on dirt. The White Hills area with some old mines.
The next day we wanted to check out an area named Red Lake on the map hoping it might be an empty playa to goof around on but it turned out to be pretty grown over and obviously hadn't been a lake for quite some time. It still afforded some nice photo ops though.
From there we found dirt down to Hackberry and then more dirt along the Big Sandy River for a stretch (more sandy than river I'm afraid) Back to pavement for a good while but we found a pretty highway at least in state route 96 near Bagdad, Kirkland, and Kirkland Junction. We found a place to camp between Kirkland and Kirkland Junction for a final night and found that we were finally pushing into the first strains of winter. 26 degrees that night and ice inside the truck when I woke up. Yikes.
From Yarnell we worked our way back down to lower desert by way of Stanton and into the back door of Wickenburg for lunch and then on home to Phoenix. I got a little lazy with pics at this point so unfortunately have only this to offer as we neared the Hassayampa River.
All in all, another great trip with a great group.

Yes, as I posted earlier, I tried to collect two of everything...
Fantastic photos great trip.....As a former Co. boy and a near lifer PNW guy I've been wanting to tour the SW for a summer or 2. when I was young I went all over the SW and have been getting a sort of home sick kinda feeling. What do you know about that cabin? Any of these type places livable for a few days?:sombrero:A bit more pavement and finally back on dirt. The White Hills area with some old mines.

I don't know anything about that particular cabin you are asking about. There was a good bit of signage in that area announcing private property claims so... The one in post #13, Wilbanks cabin as well as Hoodoo in the KOFA area can be used but when the hunters are in the area, good luck.
I also bet you mean a spring or fall visit, not summer. :sombrero:
