My 2004 Jeep Wrangler LJ With a 4BT Cummins and Some Stuff Build

Good idea on the intercooler. Will really help with the POD injectors, and pump tweaks.
An option that may work out better for your fit, may be a water-to-air charge cooler (they have kits on Silicone Intakes, and other web-stores).

Silicone Intakes provided the pipes, clamps, hoses and reducer for the Scout.

Great pricing and service.
The intercooler came new from a Craigslist seller. It was the largest I could fit in the opening w/o spending thousands.

Subscribed! Can't wait to read through this more tonight (I built a nice LJ on 1-tons and 37s a few years ago, and am still partial to LJs).

Ok thanks. I'll be looking into it. I was originally planning on using an Audi TT intercooler, but I got one with quick detach ends. So I need to get a different one after I get everything running and together.

Really? Do you have a build on it?

I do on Pirate4x4.com in the non-hardcore forum (build thread HERE). Some of the picture links got broken in the build thread at some point. See if this photo album link works for you.

Here are some of the completed pics.

School is finally out and Ive gotten back to working on the jeep.

After I got it started, I really didn't have time to work on it. In the last week, I moved everything down to my buddy's shop to get some stuff done there that I needed help on.

I decided to get driveshafts. I ended up going with Hudlow Axle, a local company here in Chattanooga. I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone. Cheaper than anywhere else I found, and get this, they were done in less than 24 hours!! Didn't even charge me tax. Steve is the owner and is a great guy.

Here is the front

And the rear already in place

I rigged up my throttle cable using the bracket from a 6bt

Finished up my tie rod. I left my drag link tubing at home, so I'll be doing that sunday.

I'm planning on making bump stops out of tubing and energy suspension bumps from Advanced Auto, similar to the ones that are stock, just longer so that my coils can droop.

And here it is as of yesterday

I got to test drive the jeep today, without brakes...

I finished up the steering, without the power steering lines, and hooked up everything else that was necessary to drive out of the shop and into the field. I drove probably about a half a mile all the way around the field a few times and down the long drive way. So much torque, its incredible. Maybe Im just imagining it but the injectors must have helped a lot. It seems to have a lot over the stock inline 6

I haven't been getting as much done as I would like, but what's new? I'm stumped on the wiring, as simple as it may be. I just found out that I don't have the wiring for the battery to the Power distribution center. Also, the harness I have is out of an automatic, and the crankshaft position sensor that is used for the sensors uses a manual transmission version. So I need to figure out which connector I need to splice, as many of them would fit...

I fixed my shifter problem. It was smacking the dash in 1st, 3rd, and 5th. I had to cut and re-weld at two different places but I think it will work now.

Lastly, I welded up the remainder of my frame tie-in kit for the roll cage.

I don't recognize the hall effect sensor on the idler pulley, but typically they run 12V. Pin A (or 1) is typically B+, Pin B(or 2) is return to ECM, Pin C (or 3) is ECM ground.
The bottom sensor looks like it's from an early 6BT, but I don't recognize the crank ring. I don't have any experience on the 6BT, other than I know the sensor, because I used a similar one for input to the transmission ECM on my build. If it is the Dodge sensor, most likely it runs on 9V, not 12V.
I think I posted the pin out for that sensor on the Cummins forum a few years ago. I may still have the pictures if you need more info.

What is it you need the crank signal input for?

Nice work on the cage mounts!

The two sensors are just the stock Crankshaft position sensor and Cam position sensor from a 2004 LJ Wrangler,. The kit from JD jeeps uses those two components to "wake up" the stock gauges, or at lest the ones that I can use. Thanks for the info on the plugs, I read up that they are indeed three wire setups, with one being the ground and the other two being signals. Where I'm not quite sure is that the connector for both sensors uses the same type of connector that apparently was on many other sensors and things that the harness connected, so there are multiple points of connection that could be correct ones, or incorrect for that matter. Seeing as I totally pulled my harness out and put it back in, I have no idea the correct location to plug the two sensors in, as I think there are 4 with the same connector pattern. Oh, well, trial and error haha.

Really its just an excuse to not get anything done. It's hard to spend what little free time I have working on the jeep sometimes haha
