My 2006 Tacoma Camping rig.

Hey everyone, been reading this forum for a few years now and even won a RTT on here from Overland Journal. Decided it's time to post up my Tacoma here to show it's been put to good use...
Started with a double cab LB with 135k on the clock and a revtek spacer lift kit already installed. First thing was to remove the checkered decals on the sides.

I made a photoshop goal of what I wanted to build as motivation and ended up with this.

The fist purchase thanks to a decent tax return was a Demello Offroad bumper. I ordered it without hoops or finish because I knew I could make my own hoops for cheaper than ordering.

I bought a pro tools 105 bender the year before so I finally got to use it for something productive!

Next came the outer hoops.

Next came the bed rack for the RTT. I used some ideas from this forum like the base and mounted the rack a different way. I used 3x3" angle iron for the base and trimmed the bed rail caps to allow a flush fit.

I cut small reliefs for the storage pockets and shaped the ends for a clean look.

Started on the front hoop then the side pieces and finally cross supports.

A coworker had a TIG welder so I asked him to weld it all up on possibly one of the most expensive adjustable height work benches.:sombrero:

I didn't get pics of the underside of the base rails, but I welded nuts on the inside to use to bolt the
rack down.

I then added gussets to each base plate and doubled them to use as a tie down point.

What it looks like on the truck.

The rack looks like it angles upward as it goes toward the rear, this is some sort of illusion, it is level.

Decided at a later time to add grab handles at the back, turned out to be on of the best things I did. I use them all the time.

Also made a bunch of tabs along the top to use in the future as light mounts.

This was all early last year, so I have a little catching up to do. Here are a few shots with the RTT
mounted and out for a weekend of fishing. Not a far cry from my photoshop goal.

Thank you for the compliments! It was a fun build. The next thing I did was Install bed lighting using LED strips I found at Walmart of all places. So far they work great. Didn't get as many pics of the process though. I used a 2nd gen toyota truck door switch on the tailgate so it stays off when closed. (last pic is in complete darkness)
