We’re in Palo Duro Canyon, Texas. This is our second night here, what a beautiful place. Originally the idea was to just stay here and hit the road the next morning but the beauty was captivating. We spent yesterday hiking and exploring caves. Texas is currently in a cold spell, but as it’s substantially warmer than home so it’s enjoyable for us.

Our first night on the road was at Alum Creek in Ohio, very nice campground. Second was in Joplin Missouri at a hotel.

No off-road travel as of yet as we’re still in the “in route” portion of our journey. Today we are off to the Petrified Forest National Park.

Nice!! I have a 2021, similar setup, just no cap: a tonneau cover, Yakima bed rack and a Alu-Cab RTT. Just got the RTT, so haven't slept in it – still sitting behind the house under a tarp. Waiting until I get my summer tires back on, and will be equipping it for a trip to Baja!

Love the rig!

A beautiful and rewarding last few days. We made it to Joshua Tree, California. We ventured out to Old Dale Rd and the Brooklyn Mine Jeep Trail. It was beautiful and peaceful. The road in was a great test to the truck as we rallied pretty hard for 12 miles inward on the sand built road.

From the intersection of Old Dale Rd and Brooklyn Mine in both directions was rocky and more challenging. Both could be done in a stock 4wd like a Tacoma or 4Runner.

We camped out two nights in different spots of Joshua Tree and moved into Death Valley.

On paper Death Valley is impressive but it’s hard to grasp until you’re there. My highest suggestion is to fuel up in Nevada and bring as much food and fuel as possible. There’s only snacks and expensive fuel outside of the lodging establishments restaurant. I got fuel for $3.01 just a few miles over the state line vs nearly $7 a gallon (regular 87 octane) here in the park.

We camped out near the crater, off Emirates and as I type this (not submit) we’re off Echo Canyon a few miles up a trail that is simply breathtaking as it narrowly winds through the mountains.

Our original plan was to hit the Grand Canyon area before California but decided to get it on the way back due to the snowstorm that rocked most of the country. We’re headed that way from Death Valley.

Looks awesome!

There's something about DV, J Tree and Anza Borrego that you just can't explain. So magical. I'm back from a weekend in Anza Borrego and craving to go back already.

Safe travels!

We wanted to see Sedona, I never really looked into it and figured we’d spend the day here and bop up to the Grand Canyon for the night and thereafter.

Hands down the nicest town I’ve ever been to. A lot of long term Sedonians(maybe that’s it) are from Vermont waaay back so we have a lot in common.

We wheeled out Dry Creek and took in some awesome sights! Our first night here, I think we’re going to be staying a while. The dog went swimming and the girlfriend dragged me on a hike, but I’m so glad we went. 967F0FC1-64CF-4C38-B558-F8CE38BFA281.jpeg187847DA-4683-434F-BD04-F6705C2BCAD6.jpeg7E84F98F-9C68-4C18-B8A9-821E135CE8A6.jpeg

The Grand Canyon.
I’d have to say, I’m either all out of “ooh-aah” moments for right now or maybe it’s a damn covid symptom. All I can say is, it’s a big canyon. I think the Palo Duro Canyon is more awe inspiring.
We spent a couple hours on the south rim and then ventured off into the forest roads towards Kelbab. Hiked/climbed a fire tower and did some nice light trail riding before setting up camp. I felt bad the trails were wet but they were already well traveled meeting many a rented UTV, tours and other travelers. But not saying if everyone jumped off a bridge…

I think the few hours is enough for us at the Grand Canyon, we have the dog so hiking off the rim is a no-go. Off towards Utah either tomorrow or the day after, we may take a lazy day Saturday as we have a nice spot with sun and service.

We did make it up Schnebly Hill in Sedona that was not mentioned in prior post, it was 100% worth it. Bumpy and not technical, I think our stock WK2 Jeep would make it without contact providing proper line choices. One on the road upgrade was some LED removable lighting (secured bases) around the tent I added this morning. A4D57D6D-0F07-447F-8C4D-EE6B3BA476CE.jpeg
