I just picked up a 2002 Kota, google searched Dakota Adventure and boom, I'm the newest expeditionportal member. Cool build, you've got me thinking about what I want to do.
Cheers,
Steve

I had a 98 dakota extended cab with the 318. I had 2 " of lift from cranking the bars, and putting an inch tall spacer in the back. I fit 33's on it and had WAAG brushguard, taillight guards and side steps on it. I loved that truck. I wish I still owned it. The only issue I had with it was, 1. the transmission filter would clog easily causing odd shifts etc. and 2. ball joints were sized for a neon, not a 4x4 truck. Other than that, the truck was great.

Thanks for all the kind words. I've kept the cost of the build at a minimum. I just started working at O'reilly's auto parts. Will be training for management soon. So I get a decent discount on parts. Needless to say I'm making a list of upgrades for the Dak. Stay tuned.

Just a quick update. Have made a few improvements/upgrades. I upgraded the 55 watt bulbs in my Hellas to the 100 watt bulbs. I swapped out the rear halogen spot light for a 1200 lumens led. What a difference it makes. I also picked up an AGM battery with both top and side mount from work. Its the Oreillys house brand equivelant of the Optima. 20160925_142841.jpg20160925_142246.jpg20160925_153659.jpg20160926_200452.jpg20160926_200502.jpg20161001_103552.jpg

A quick update on the Kota. I got my second battery installed in the rear bed. I also acquired a rack from some scrap metal at work. I cleaned it up and put a couple coats of Rustoleum flat black paint. It holds 1 5-gallon and 1 6-gallon water can and a 2 and 5 gallon fuel can. It attaches to the roof mounted rack and is quick disconnect. I am definetly building this on a budget. Here are a couple of pics. I also finally got the Spectre Air intake installed. 20161021_144340.jpg20161021_144421.jpg20161021_144410.jpg20161021_144440.jpg20161021_145356.jpg20161021_145403.jpg Once i have a warm day i will get actual pics of the rack mounted on the roof. I will also get a few of the intake tomorrow.

Ok a quick update. I had to rebuild both front and rear driveshafts within the last 2 months. I also picked up a receiver mounted tire carrier for the long trips out. Gives me a place for the spare or for the second one once I pick it up. Here's a couple pics of it.20170329_154204.jpg20170324_181626.jpg20170329_154215.jpg20170324_181620.jpg20170324_181615.jpgThe carrier fits good w the fuel can mount as well. Im hoping to pick up another mount soon.

And todays.20170412_124646.jpg20170412_124616.jpg20170412_125414.jpg20170412_152142.jpg20170412_152245.jpg20170412_152324.jpg20170412_152332.jpgI try to get pics but sometimes I get sidetracked w the beautiful scenery and backcountry. Definitely thankful to our creator. We also recently added a female yellow lab pup to the family. Today was her first trip out. We all had a great time. Definitely nice to build memories w the kids.

I picked up a 20 inch led light bar and got it installed. What a difference it makes at night. Definitely brighter than the old Hellas. I also got a swing out tire carrier off of a Bronco II. Probably need to do some modifications for it to work. But for 20.00 I can't complain. Here's a couple pics.20170416_124033.jpg20170416_124053.jpg
