My all terrain trailer build

Link to my thread at MUD. http://forum.ih8mud.com/trailer-tech/372002-possible-all-terrain-trailer.html

Just asked a couple questions there and figured I'd ask here as well.
The plan is to have a capable all terrain trailer that will hold most of our camping gear and will also have a RTT on top.

"So I was rummaging around my steel pile tonight and came upon a few suspension links. I have a set of rear links of an FZJ80 and some skyjacker lower links meant for a lifter TJ jeep. Soooo, what about doing a triangulated 4-link with some airbags? You guys think this is a good idea?"
I like that the air bags could be tuned to the load in the trailer, also, the bags I'm looking at have about 5" of adjustability, meaning I could level it with different vehicles or raise it up to get over an obstacle. Any disadvantages?

"Im going to go with a 16" rim and 285/75 tire. Is a standard 6" wide trailer rim too narrow for that size tire? I have the tires already so just need to order some wheels."
I just read on BFG's website that 7.5" is the minimum 'recommended' rim width. The reason Im looking at the narrower rim is that its made for trailers and also super much cheaper than buying something else. Thoughts?

Ill update this thread with my build once I get my parts.

Well I've made some progress. Built a new frame and suspension with a new 3500lb axle. I decided on a 4-link with triangulated uppers sprung with air bags. I'll do a better update with better pictures when I've got more time...

Nice work, I like it. IDK why more folks dont' start from scratch and bild the trailer frame it's easier than jacking with hybrids and you have a better finished project.

You are absolutely correct. This was the biggest mistake I have made in turning a jeepster into a trailer. I would have been far ahead to have built my own frame.

Long overdue update.
Trailer is mostly 'completed', still have paint work to do. We just took it out for a week long trip and it performed wonderfully, better than I'd hoped for.:victory: I really cant feel the trailer behind us at all. Even got it on some dirt for a few miles and it did great.
Heres a few pics, I'll post more detailed ones soon.....

Are you from South Africa? That looks like a Venter trailer box plonked on your chassis

Nope, not from SA. From what I understand, they was a US importer of the venter trailers for a short while. There isn't many of them around, but they can be found if you look hard enough.
