I did this on my 2006 Tacoma and it worked so well it was one of the first things I did on my new 2022 Taco.
This is just a couple of commercial floor mats from the Home Depot and some other stuff.
for insulation I use some carpet foam for the 1st layer to conform to the groves of the truck bed:
Then I used Reflective insulation folded double.
And an OEM TRD rubber bed mat to give some stiffness
The commercial floor mats from the Home Depot are done in two pieces joined by Gorilla tape. That lasted 12+ years on my last Tacoma.
For the tailgate I filled the groves of tailgate with foam from an old sleeping pad and then unscrewed the tailgate to secure the mat under the plastic.
The tailgate mat also helps keep dust from entering the back along the bottom of the tailgate.
