My daughter's first back country trip to BIBE

At the time of this trip my little family consisted of my very pregnant wife, my four year old daughter, and my self. This trip has been on the books for awhile, but due to hurricanes and other unplanned events we had to postpone the trip. When finally ready it was deemed to remote a destination for a seven month pregnant women to go. With little deliberation we decided to go ahead a planned but minus mamma. We set off... One epic father daughter trip before the new sisters arrival. With a sound track from Phish to Jack Johnson we took off to the wilds of Big Bend. Here are a few picks of the trip.

This is the first campsite up in the Chisos mountains. We arrived to late to apply for back country permits, so we had to stay in the general public camp site. The next day we got our permits and headed south. We started at River Road. While on river road we explored Rooney's Place, which is an unmarked trail on the south side of the trail.

Once we were done we turned north on Glen Spring road.

We arrived at our first camp site. Thanks Will for the tip. Robbers roost was awesome. The camp site is located on the back side of the Chisos range. There was no one for miles. To be so remote was so refreshing to me.

After Robbers Roost we headed south to Black Gap road.

Black Gap was not as bad as I thought it would be. The stair step was nothing bad. Shoot it had cement ant rocks on top. I would have liked it to be a little more interesting .

In my oponion Black Gap was the most scenic trail that we did. Once of Black Gap we turned east on River Road where we explored the The Mariscal Mines.

It crazy to think about hauling the quicksilver with a mule or burrow all the way to Terlingua over the terrain I just crossed in a vehicle.WOW! The is my daughter and me rocking out to Life is a HighWay The Rascal Flats remake from Cars..
IMG_4256.jpg

And to think some people thought this trip was a cruel thing to do with a little girl. and some evan told my wife she was crazy for letting me take her.
As you can see she is having a horrible time....LOL! Once off River road we topped of the tank atRio Grande Village. Check this out. This couple was parked in a site with full hook up. I was thinking what a waste.. They were here with the drum of RV generators, and people in stead of out in the back country....

can you say Bling Bling???? Off to Old Ore Road, and the Ernst Tinaja!
IMG_4293.jpg

The geology on the hike and at the Tinaja were just spectacular. To think how long it took to carve these formations with water...

Here is the actual Ernst Tinaja.

This is looking out of the tent at The canyon wall. There were actually people up there hiking. Man the beauty of this place is just so awe inspiring.
We awoke the next morning to the most beautiful sky..

Whoever tried to say it was a horrible thing to do to your daughter is nuts
That is quality time at it's finest.

30 or so years down the road she is going to see a picture or some smell is going to drift by her and she will smile and remember the time that her and Dad had some wonderful adventure way back when.

I get near a river and just the sound of it takes me back to all those trips I shared with my Dad and uncles.

Grandma used to give each and everyone of them some long winded speech about if that boy drowns the rest of you will soon follow him and too this day I see them nodding and cracking grins

Thanks again Will and Wendy over at Sierra Expeditions for the help. Hand down the best company to deal with. All the gear from the tent to the toilet worked flawlessly.

OK, I'm not gonna lie. I'm sure the report is great, but I can't get past the awkward picture placement which is requiring me to scroll far left and right constantly.

I'll be heading out on my first Father/Daughter only trip this year as well.

I agree with J.D. But great write up and pics. Thanks for sharing. My 5 year old daughter loves going off-roading and camping with dad. We are going up to Expo next weekend. I know she'll have a blast.

I am sorry about the funny picture placement. My first time to post up pictures on a thread like this.I hope it is not to much of a distraction. Besides i guess since my computer is a wide screen it was not that big of an issue when i wrote it.. again sorry.
