my first fishing kayak

The good thing about the fishing kayaks is that you get out at otherwise unaccessable areas. Thus saving the time from going out at a "real" boat launch. Add to the fact that a fully outfitted kayak costs ALOT less than a boat.

The manta 12 is a nice kayak. When LL contacted me for ideas I suggested simply fixing the Tarpons. Essentially that's what the Mantas are. What WS should have done with the Tarpons after they got feedback, but never did.

Your right about the Manta being a suped up Tarpon. THe deck of the T-120 was good. Definetly a big break through for the 12' size. Before the T-120 every one was using the T-160 and I was trying to sell the Dagger Caymen 12.5' Boat in my shop as a nice day rig. It had great storage in the rear a large hatch up front etc. Everyone I tried to sell it to said Oh no you can't use a 12' kayak to fish they are to small to carry the gear. The next year the Caymen was discontinued and the 12' Tarpon came out. The tarpon became the best selling kayak to hit the market ever, and were on an average of 6 months back order. Now the world wanted a 12' fishing kayak and I could not get the Caymens LOL! As usual ahead of my time.

Marginal pic of the caymen but you can see large rear tank well front hatch, mall ceter console etc. All the making of a great platform! As an early kayak fishing boat this was a top choice I used one for years.

The Manta Ray 12 put up respectable numbers in the latest Canoe & Kayak Baja Proving Grounds fishing kayak shoot out. Congratulations!

Kayak fishing can be the most fun you'll ever have sitting down.
:jump:
I have had some positively epic fishing days on a SOT 'yak.
Personal best to date: C&R on a 150+/-lb Thresher.
You'll have a blast.

That's why fisherman ar such great customers. They need all that stuff LOL!

That's why, when I looked for a name for my business I named it Kayak Fishing Stuff.

The tarpons sure were hot. They were a great seller for me too. A few years back, when Charles, at Chokoloskee Charters decided to offer mothership kayak fishing in the Everglades he gave me a call. I suggested a fleet of tarpon 120s. We did a trip with him shortly thereafter and of the 6 folks on the trip everyone that didn't have a 120 at the time added one to there fleet after using them for a week.

Now they're hard to sell new but luckily I don't sell kayaks anymore, since I sold KFS. There are better choices, like the mantas, etc.
