My first post. Building a new trailer!!

After finding this website and seeing all the awesome trailer builds, iv'e been losing sleep over trailer ideas. So, i have a few questions and would like any input or ideas. I have already sourced stock 17" wheels and tires to match my jeep and would like to run them without wheel spacers, is there any way to do this without machining the wheels? Also, is 2x2 3/16 wall tube strong enough for the 2000 lbs. max i will load it to? or will 2x3 tube be better? and what thickness diamond plate will be needed for the deck? The trailer will be 4x8 with 6 cross braces total in the frame, including the front and back. thanks

Congrats on taking the leap! I personally feel as though 2"x 3"x 1/8" would be adequate for the chassis. In regards to the wheel spacers...I would simply order the axle with the correct lug pattern. I too am starting a trailer build (4' x 6') and am losing an incredible amount of sleep. There is so much great information available here. Enjoy and good luck!

Well that make 3 of us that are losing sleep with new trailer builds....

I think Slumlord is asking about using stock Jeep (I'll assume it's a JK) rims that have a small center bore. To my knowledge all trailer axle hubs diameters are to large for stock JK's rims.

If you machine a extra pair of JK rims for the trailer and want to use the spare tire on the JK as spare for the trailer too, you could carry along a spacer, so the stock JK rim will also fit on the trailer.

Make that 4... only I cant weld and cant justify spending as much as a used car on a built camp trailer... Guess I better start saving or practice with a welder.
