Love Big Horn Sheep. Laying in the camper on our trips west listening to a nearby Owl and coyotes off in the distanceis always special. We are always listening for something new. Nine coyotes is amazing. Awesome close-up shots.

A couple of months back Melinda got seven chicks or chickens. She kept them in her craftroom for a bit untill they overstayed there welcome and she moved them out onto the covered back porch. Two days after the eviction I let the poodle out into the front yard early in the morning and she lit up and raced to the fence. I poked my head out the door to see what Ava was all goofed up about and I see a coyote sitting on its haunches facing directly at the house. A s soon as I was part of the equation it took off down the street. I do not live in the country nor do I live in the big city but seeing a coyote in my front yard was a bit shocking. It heard the chicks peeping from god knows how far off through the din of silverdale washington and came for breakfast. Ya their adaptable.

We have coyotes in our subdivision (heavily wooded, built out in the early 1960s) and we're only 5.5 miles from the state Capitol building in downtown Raleigh. Our county has about 1,000,000 residents and very little rural land left. Just started seeing coyotes about 5 years ago, and now it's no longer unusual. I walk most every morning between 0530 and 0630 and I'll see one a couple or three times a month. Fox and whitetail deer a couple or three times each week.

Alan / JD / Greg / Foy.....I was sitting by the campfire overlooking the lake last night listening to the coyotes howl and bark as the sunset and I began to ponder what it is about the coyotes that intrigues me the way that they do. And I began to think about my love for canines, and that the coyotes represent to me, in a dog worlds, the wildness that I too dream of living, and that I'll never achieve.....they continue to live the type of life that they were meant to live. I'm not sure if that makes any sense.....but that's the best way I know how to explain myself.....I have such an admiration for their ability to adjust & survive in so many different & varied environments.....

tgil.....that too.....

It's difficult for me to believe that it's been nearly a year since my beautiful adventure dog Yukon moved on to the next world. Just tapping the keys on my phone at this very moment still brings out a flood of emotions.....never forgotten and always missed.....Yukon.....

On Saturday morning Tanner & I welcomed a new member to our little adventure team. I see her as not walking in Yukons paw prints ?, but that she walks alongside Yukons paw prints ?, as I chose to believe that Yukon is still walking with us.....just in the afterlife in a dogs world ?.....

So here she is.....

Her first Jeep ride.....

In Vegas they called her Maggie.....certainly a rising star along the strip due to her natural beauty.....she was destined to be a showgirl and her name would have been seen on those huge flashing signs along Las Vegas Boulevard.....

20210131_104941_copy_1200x2133.jpg

But Maggie is a canine.....her heart is wild like the coyotes that frequent Lake Mead and she was meant to roam (and adventure).....

20210131_011305_copy_1200x2133.jpg

So she traded in the big city lights of Vegas for the starlights & moonlights of the mountains & the prairies.....at barely 4 months of age she chose to leave Vegas behind.....

No more rushing around trying to prepare for an appointment with the groomer.....now she swims in the ice cold waters of the mountain creeks, rivers, and lakes.....

20210131_143457_copy_1200x675.jpg

Dog parks & concrete sidewalks are a thing of her past.....canyons, cliffs and mountain summits await her.....

She came from a wonderful family that loves her dearly.....and it's amazing how happy they are with their choice to let her go where her heart chose to take her.....I am certain that they will see this and these words will bring calmness to their unsettled hearts.....

Soon Maggie will be given a new name.....her adventure name if you will.....but she will always be Maggie in Vegas.....she's a legend in that town.....

Let the good times roll.....

I believe most dogs, particularly the hunting breeds, instinctively know the difference between city lights and star light. She probably already knows she’s a lucky dog. I am sure the three of you will have wonderful adventures together.

Awesome! Your story of rescuing her from the famous big city pretty girl life rings true with me and my standard poodle. People do not know what to think when she hops out of my work van and wanders into Home depot to fetch some materials. Women sometimes look at me like I do not deserve the girl and that she should be rescued from me. I caught one women outside my van who I am positive was trying to steal her. The look she gave me..... Same with us out in the woods. People see my old hairy Charhart wearing busshy beard and have problems putting the two of us together. its funny as hell to me. Anyway i am so HAPPY for you and her YAY

When I was in high school I lived at the base of Chinook pass and had the central cascades literally right out my back door. I loved to disappear up there on the week ends during the winter as work was slow at whistlen jacks lodge and I could get out of washing dishes. I built a rock shelter a few miles from the ranch and it was often my destination. I used to bring fresh meat from the ranch and spend the cold nights roasting it staying warm around the fire and I would snooze during the day when the sun was out and it was warm. Long story short I made friends with a pack of coyotes who started out lingering just out of sight to coming right up to the shelter for scraps. One of these trips I was tossing out pieces of rabbit trying to get them in closer and they disappeared. When I got up in the morning I had lion tracks three feet from where I was eating and sleeping. I to love the coyotes but they will stab ya in the back if yer not careful. Learned that when they ate my friends Puppy right in front of her. Maybe that is just part of what it takes to live free like them.

Love Maggie !

Last week we have lost Hebe - our 14 year Golden Retriever- and seeing a happy puppy like that makes very much wanting another one to help us here..

Good pics and that is a seriously privileged dog.

Hope you'll have many happy trails together.

Congrats Jerry and Tanner. I am sure she will bring some new excitement for you.

She looks like she is right at home and she doesn't yet know how lucky she is!
The second I saw her picture that was my first thought. She found an excellent travel team.
