My little Harbor Freight trailer build

So I picked up the trailer today; I'm pleased with how the liner and lid came out. The lid is snug around the outside edge of the trailer (plus there's velcro), but is loose on the top so if we have a load that goes past the top of the trailer, we're good. In the pictures you can see more of the detail. You can also see the straps I'll be using to keep the lid from flapping and such when going down the road (plus keep stuff from bouncing). I'll have a very small tarp or something to put between the gear and the underneath of the lid.

I put a scrap piece of carpet (cut to fit) on the bottom of the liner until I can get some sort of rubber mat. That way I'll prevent poking a hole in the floor of the liner with our gear either when loading the trailer, or stuff shifting when traveling down the road.

Total cost for the liner and lid: $400 (plus tax). I already had the four straps from our previous trip (HF specials). They're friction straps; not ratchet straps.

Before we take it on our Alaska/Canada adventure, I need to do something to make sure the seams don't leak. Suggestions? The material is a very heavy-weight vinyl.

Anyways, let me know if you have any questions.

That's a cool little trailer. I didn't see this thread when looking for ideas to do mine, but it is kind of funny to see some of the similarities that I did when building mine. :p

Gives me more ideas.... Well Done. I cant see the full build thread right now(at work), but do you know the final weight empty?

I never did weigh it. All I can tell you is, it isn't heavy at all, and pulled very easily even when loaded.

And somehow I posted this picture twice. Sorry. It's from our Alaska/Canada adventure tour. We would not have been able to bring near the amount of gear we did if we didn't have the trailer. It definitely earned its keep on this trip. And the pintle hitch set-up was not noisy at all (as some folks had thought it might be). There are many ways you can finish off one of these little 4' trailers to suit your needs.

Awesome build .Nice things come in small packages. Bigger is not always better. It seems people are going from bigger campers and house and what not to smaller thing because of weather fuel prices and maintaining thing. So would a rtt be in your future to get you off ground and keep that awesome trailer for storage still. Great write up also .You can build on budget and work up. Happy camping

If you don't mind me asking, who makes those tubs in Canada? What sizes do they come in? I wonder if I could throw something like that in the trunk as a storage box or put it into my trailer as a storage box.

Thank you!
Looks kind of like the photos from this company: SCH Trailers, they're in Alberta.

Thanks for the compliments. I'm not a big fan of RTTs. They look good in theory, but I prefer a larger tent. The one I've been using is a 10x13' tent. That way we can put two oversized Army type cots in the tent, and still have plenty of space between us. We can pack our duffel bags under the cots.

With a RTT, they've got a smaller footprint (I don't feel like spooning with my buddy; sorry). Plus there's really no place to put your luggage inside other than where you're sleeping. But whatever; as long as I'm not laying on the ground.
