I'm hoping to do something similar, although I'd planned on only using ply (mainly because of a lack of access to welding kit).
Has anyone had any experience in fixing a half width storage solution in though? I love how you've secured this using the tie down rings, but I'm planning on only have a half width box / drawer (I need access to the 6th seat) so I'm not entirely sure how to fix the unit in the middle of the car?

No welding needed with my set up as all connectors just press in. For a single side platform frame you will need to come up with some type of bracket that you can anchor at some of the anchor points holding in the 7th seat

I ended up taking a gamble on a Travall cargo barrier (http://www.travall.us/land-rover/travall-pet-barrier-tdg1299) and got lucky....an absolute perfect fit with my platform and frame. Couldn't have asked for a better fit:

Here is an example of the connectors:

...then you just press them into the 1" aluminum tubing with a rubber mallet. Go to www.eztube.com. Note that you need to purchase their tubing as it's got ridges inside it that bites into the connectors.

Love the storage solution, and the prices on eztube are not bad at all. I just might have to make something similar down the road. Question on the travall barrier mounting points, what do they attach to on the c pillars there? do you screw it into the plastic molding and i assume metal underneath?

its just pressed against the c-piller. From the pictures you will see that it levers on the side plastic shelving and then mounts into place with a j-hook attached to the lower drings. its a really simple mouting system and could some in and out in under a minute. Its very solid once in as well.

I have Travall for over two years now and it is a perfect product.
Does not require drilling into C pillar at all.It tightens up there with a combination of turning the knob on floor/ tie down point and adjustable leg that sits on the C pillar itself.

That looks fantastic.

That is exactly what I'd like to do with the XTerra. Drawer systems are nice and all, but adding 200+lbs right out of the gate doesn't exactly excite me....

Well, I've made the same thing and I must say I like it a lot. I do travel with the dog so, I fill like I've gain the space under, which otherwise was useless.





I am planing to make a metal mesh divider with a door for the dog, similar to LR original but obviously smaller now

Do you think I could get away with a 30in span between uprights with this material? How far are you guys going between vertical support?
