My new 1 gen Montero (lots of pics)

I am missing that box with the armrest/lid. The question now is should I find one or should I build one.

Fangars- Glad I can help!

Montero Question for anyone: My Monty is squeaking quite badly. Whenever I'm offroading, navigating bumps and dips, there's a nice audible "click" or "clunk", something metal on metal. Sometimes the sound comes from the front or rear. To my knowledge, nothing has ever been changed in it's lifetime, except the KYB shocks. Is there a bushing set that would fix this?

check your front anti sway bar bushings.

It's not uncommon being the rubber's likely from the 90's.

Last I checked the dealer had replacements available for a reasonable amount.

Can a comparable bushing be bought from Advance or Autoparts? I recall seeing a thread about a guy replacing them in a gen 2. Would one use the same kind?

Probably. I'd buy it if it were an OEM fit alternative or replacement made of rubber it may be a lot of trouble to find a suitable application similar enough to the Montero.

I wouldn't if it was made of poly as those typically squeak as badly as a worn rubber unit.

Also IIRC the Mitsu unit came with both the rubber isolators and the bolt so you don't have to worry about a rusted out original.

The final thing to consider is the OEM unit lasted at least 15 years so it's definitely a high quality item.
