My new baby-96 Disco 5 spd

Couldn't resist local sale - My son thought it looked like it came out of a junk yard but after cleaning off an ample blanket of pollen and pine needles, a quick wash and and "one pass" buff job, a coat of paint on the bumper, and she looks like this. Escape Gear covers are coming and the headliner needs replacement- she has 113000 miles on her, runs strong, shifts pretty cleanly and all electronics work!

That particular shade of red does buff up well. I had a 96 DI the exact same shade once. When I got it the paint looked totally ruined by the sun. One afternoon worth of work with various cutting/polishing/buffing compounds + some back-to-black for the plastic trim and it looked like new.

Sold it a couple months later for a tidy profit.

My 96 5-speed has about 330k on it. Trans has never been touched. On 3rd clutch. Original 4.0 with original bottom end that had head-gaskets done at 114k and 298k with valve job. Good choice.

Yep, I love this old girl for her simplicity. No leather. No sunroof. No power seats. I had a d90 and an '84 110 that were both simple trucks. This one reminds me of those. And I do love working through the gears. If I need ridiculous luxury, I'll drive my DII

I had a 96 SD a few years ago, it basically rusted in two so parted it. Found this one I have no for basically free with a blown engine.
Be sure to put MTL in it instead of ATF if you're in a hotter climate.

5 speeds are a blast with juiced 4.6 too.
