My new Sig-Sauer P250

Here's the newest addition, Sig-Sauer P250 2-SUM kit, which includes full size and sub-compact frames. I couldn't find a large caliber locally, so I went ahead w/ the 9mm Para. On my short list is the caliber conversion kit so that I can change it over to .357 SIG, which will also work w/ both frame sizes.

I'm curious to hear how you like it and how reliable it is after you've shot a few hundred rounds through it. I love shooting my 226 and 220. I keep trying out lighter units from other gun mfgs but keep coming back to my Sigs for jam-proof and accurate reliability.

Can't go wrong with Sig. 9mm is a bit of a let down though. Still a great gun none the less.

The modular concept is interesting but I'd rather have two separate guns.

As far as Sigs go, I have a P228 and it's a fine weapon.

Just a suggestion...look around and find some +P+ 9mm factory ammo in a bullet type that meets your specific needs (likely a Jacketed Hollow Point JHP in 115-125 gr.). The SIG frame and barrel can handle the "+p+" loading fine and in the large frame you likley not really notice much change in felt recoil.

Compare ballistics & bullet weights with .357 SIG and I think for the practical diffrence you could keep your money in your pocket as far as buying the conversion...perhaps buy good leather to carry, a good storage box for security, & more 9mm and range time.

Just my opinion, not preaching.

Oh, and keep your slide rails lightly lubed.

Thank you for the suggestion, I'll seriously consider it. Initial range report to follow.

I took the new handgun (SIG P250) to the range for the first time yesterday. I only spent 100 rounds, here are the results:

Note: This is my first autoloading handgun. All of my experience with handguns up to this point have been with Dan Wesson .357 magnum service revolvers. I had an agreement with the ME State Wardens Service and acquired many of their retired service revolvers when they upgraded to their current SIG P226 in .357 Sig issued sidearm. With those old service revolvers, I could regularly hit spent 12g shotgun shells from a sawhorse (I know, really technical) at 25 yards.

Target: 12" target w/ 6" black and 1" bullseye

Weapon: Sig-Sauer P250 in 9mm w/ large and sub-compact grip module, barrel/slide and magazine sizes.

Ammunition: Sellier & Bellot - 9 mm LUGER / 9 mm PARA - FMJ - 115 gr

Scenario 1: P250 w/ full size grip module using FMJ 115gr cheap 'target' ammo.

1. 25 yards (too far). 26 out of 34 (2 full clips) in the black, remaining 8 shots within .5" of black, all low and to the left. I believe that I didn't have enough trigger finger on the trigger and was pushing the weapon toward my weak side. I may have an armorer fit the 'short-trigger' and see how it compares.

2. 15 yards (better). Final clip w/ all 17 shots falling within the black. Still, majority low and to the left...and I was really concentrating on the trigger control and finger placement.

Scenario 2: P250 w/ sub-compact grip module using FMJ 115gr cheap 'target' ammo.

1. 15 yards (better). First 4 clips (48 rounds) across 4 new 12" targets w/ 6" black. All 12 rounds from each clip within the black. Still, all low and to the left of center bullseye.

2. 25 yards (big mistake). Final 18 shots below and to the left of center, 12 falling within the black.

Comments:
I'm extremely satisfied w/ the weapon. The trigger pull is smooth w/ no gritty or hitchy feel. Personally, a noticable difference in 'my' accuracy w/ this hangun when moving between the full size grip module and the sub-compact grip module.

There may be a 'very slight' accuracy trade-off for the modularity of the gun, but not what I would consider significant, in my opinion.

I don't believe that I'll be purchasing a larger caliber conversion kit for this handgun. Rather, I'll opt for something along the lines of a SIG 1911 .45 ACP for a larger caliber. I will be testing better quality and more powerful 9mm ammunition my next trip out.

No jamming through the 100 rounds...even though I was using junk ammo. Large powder burn residue on one side of all of the recovered brass. The ammo looked to be very dirty also, felt like I was cleaning a black powder gun.

Are you still happy with it? There is a guy at work selling one in 9MM with a nickel slide and 3-15 round mags. He got it new and has only run ~250 rounds through it.

He wants 400 for it.

Do you know if these are OK with +P? I run +P in my 92FS for carry and wonder if that would be acceptable to the Sig.

Thanks,
Dave

Yes, I'm still very happy with it.

If the seller has 15 rd mags, then it is the compact frame size, which is between the sub-compact (12 rds) and full size (17 rds) frames that I have. I've got over 500 rds through mine w/o a single jam, misfire or stovepipe. At the range, I primarily shoot WWB, 115 gr., but I've put 50 rds of my HD ammo through it as well, which is Winchester Ranger +P+ 127gr....a super hot load to say the least. No issues.

I'm very impressed w/ the strength and substance of the weapon, given it's polymer frame. With the cost of the mags being +/- $40...I think that's an acceptable price.

I did have to do a short trigger swap on it because of my hand size, but other than that, the medium grip size fits great.

I passed up a certified pre owned p250 at a gun show for what I recall being under 500. I own to many pistols, I had to put a freeze on my pistol buying...
