My new (to me) 1988 Chevrolet K5 Blazer.

Hello,
I am 1.5 days into my trip home from picking up my new 1988 Chevrolet K5 Blazer in Holland, MI. Or is it a K30 Blazer? She has a dana 60 front axle filled with all the stuff that you want. ARB, 35 chromoly axles, new timken bearings, 4.10 gear ratio and so on. The rear Corporate 14 has a Limited slip (soon to be an ARB) and disc brakes. The u joints are all 1410 units. Custom made drive shafts with CVs also with 1410 u joints. She has a cabosh of various lift components. Most are ORD which is the good stuff. The rest not very well thought out. She rides like a bucking mule on rough highways. I will take care of that shortly. I plan on running a full ORD lift system with there custom leafs. More on that later. the Tcase is a Rebuilt NP205 mated to ORDs Magnum box. 3 sticks in the cab control the rate of motion. Low Low is 5.33:1. Those buets are mated to a purpose built 4L80E transmission. The transmission is mated to a Chevrolet LS LQ9 6.0 V8. She has plenty of power and after 1,200 miles or close there to I can say she hasn't skipped a beat. I'm so far averaging between 14 and 15 mpg. Thats what my Tacoma gets on the highway! The engine conversion looks professionally done. It was very well thought out and executed. In fact it looks just about factory. To that was added a Vintage air unit. That is now blowing hot unfortunately as it was a hot one today. I need to get that looked into tomorrow while I am in Denver. The after market bumpers are OK. Not what I would have picked out. The Blazer it self is one of the best ones I have seen in person. There are a few dings and nicks here and there but she is 30 years old. The interior is in excellent shape. Everything seems to work. In fact I have seen just plain stock Blazers in near this close condition go for more than what I paid for her. Not cheap but half what it would have cost me to build what I just bought. I will post some pics I pirated from the Company I bought her from........953975f34514_hd_1988-chevrolet-blazer.jpg

She has a new set of Mickey Thompson Mts and aluminum wheels. They are louder than my beloved Toyo Mts and don't ride as nice. I need to source some new wheels and a set of 33" Toyo Mts. The spare tire sticks out to far. Thats a simple fixed with my saw saw, grinder with flap disc and my Lincoln welder. My last complaint is all of the Gay (can I say that) all of the GAY lit up accessories after market switches and displays and stereo. My GOD it was like a fricking DISCO inside that cab last night! Death before Disco! Red Sterio Blue this and greenish that and a Great Big digital LED display for my engine info blazing away like an 747s landing light right into my face. Hey I love all the information it provides but holy crap! Its a teenagers dream car inside. All that ******** has just got to go or some how be turned down so low I can't see it on.

In the morning I am picking up a M12-S Warn winch. They will also be doing the install since I would like to hit a trail on my way home while I'm in Colorado. You never know when a FORD will need to be pulled out of something or another.

Nice looking Blazer. I know exactly what you mean by looking like a 747 gay cockpit. With some time spent doing research all the lighting colors could have been matched. I would imagine it is a bunch of Carling switches. Those are probably LED and you maybe able to put a dimmer in the lamp circuit depending on how they were wired. Stereos usually offer a choice of lighting colors in the their setup. Also it should have been connected into the headlight circuit for night time dimming.

You mentioned digital dash. Do you know what brand was used? There are many digital dash options out there and most are programmable.

That kind of mileage is great for a vehicle that probably weighs 5000 pounds or better. Curious as to what gear and tire size it has now? What is the cruise speed and rpm? Those LS motors love to cruise and sip gas around 1500 to 2000 rpm.

Funny, it's usually the opposite trip to find a clean truck. I have to go from Michigan to Colorado for clean stuff. Congrats!

The Blazer was sourced by the company out of Washington State. He prepped it for Michigan road salt so everything is sealed underneath with bed liner. They also pulled everything out and sealed the floor in the cab.

Its not a digital dash. More like a remote mounted LED display that is mounted just below and to the left of the dash. These are the loose ends I need to tie up. Nothing overall bad just annoying.

Here it is so far. I had them mount the solenoid pack under the hood. The M12-s Warn winch just wouldn't fit. This smaller 10K winch is still plenty enough to pull out the "Stuckest" Ford Bronco. Should be wrapped up here soon. I also ditched the polished fairlead for this Black unit. I will give the polished one to my brother who drives a Bronco. I'm pretty sure he was adopted.

The tire size is 33". Gearing is 4:10 Highway cruise at 75 is 2350 or so RPM. I like running her at 70 though if no one is behind me.
