I got all of the unwanted brackets cut off, painted it with chassis paint and ready to install. As a bonus, I found that the Mazda drive shaft bolts right up to the pinion flange! :wings:

I had to clearance my Trooper wheels to clear the larger axle center diameter of the Montero axle. A router with rabbiting bit made quick work of it.

Got it all mounted up today, the only things left to do are move the down brake line to the driver side of the diff, figure out the parking brake cables and weld on the passenger side shock mount.

I got to go out and test the new rear end with locker this weekend exploring new sections for the KAT, it did great and the new found traction is incredible!

What a cool build! What is the story behind this time capsule? Any plans up upgrade the front diff to the montero unit as well?

I bought it from an estate, it only had 34,000 miles on it. My plan is to swap in a Toyota solid front axle to get rid of the IFS.
