My version of an expo trailer

I am new here but have been reading quite a bit. This is my trailer. Originally built to be multipurpose camping/utility. Now I have a pick up truck so this trailer can start the transformation into an Expo trailer.

The basic design consists of a 4'x6' box 19" deep with a tailgate. Spare tire mounted under the front. The tougne is removeable with interchangeable couplers( lunette and ball) There is a 2" receiver in the back. Alot of diamond plate.:wings:

The first new addition: extended the tougne about 3' and built a basket for the front. Basket is 30"x36" with 6" sides. Enough room for 2 coolers and 2 water jugs. I bought cheap water jugs for the test fitting.

The orginal axle I made has Land Rover hubs and it is on it's way to a new owner. Next on the list is changeing the axle to a 5x5.5 lug pattern and independent suspension. After looking at the pic's of the AT trailers I feel like I can duplicate that suspension setup. I already have some airbags sitting around and most of the steel needed to make that setup. I wish I had the $$$ to buy an AT they look VERY nice. But I enjoy the project as much as anything else so here I go.

do you know how much the metal ended up costing you? I plan to to do the same thing and put a cooler type system and swing out grill on mine with a triangular tongue on front with gas can/water can storage.

I built the trailer about 3 years ago so steel/Alum. were a good bit cheaper. Back then I got 2 sheets of 3/16" Diamond plate Alum. sheared to size for $380. Less than $150 in the steel. Again those prices are 3 years old. I would expect 30 to 50 % more now.

What did you do for an axle???/ I want to convert my camper to rover rims but other than getting an axle from a parts rig I am not sure how..... What did you do? any pics?

Towes Great down the road. The touge is just long enough to jackknife the Jeep to 90* without hitting the basket. Also lets my tire carrier open fully. In tight trails it does track alittle more inside of the turns than it did before with the shorter tounge. Also backs up much better now!
