iirc the last landrover NADA series sold was in about 74 , as a friend of mine who was in USAF stationed in UK bought almost the last one with great difficulty to take back with him, and that was a 3brg 2.25 petrol .

The diesel 2.25 was discontinued for the US market after 1967. The NADA six cylinder 109 was a 1967 only edition as well. From 1968-1974 the only engine available in Series trucks in North America was the 2.25 liter 4 cylinder gasoline motor.

For whats it worth, I have a 2.5 NAD in my 110. I just drove it on the Interstate from NOVA to Erie and back. Averaged 24.7 mpg, and average speed was 58 mph. Total truck weight with gear 5600 lbs. Did it smoke a bit under load...yes. Did I have to shift down going up long grades...yes. If this one dies will I have another one...yes.
The motor is a little noisy but for your basic simple, get you just about any place you want to go tractor motor...you can't beat it.

For what is worth:
I have a 1977 Series III 2.25 diesel, (5 bearings, actually is a LR Santana) with overdrive, it's too slow for modern roads (if I insist for a while I can get it to 90 Km/h or so), it really has a lot of pull and in slow situation I love it, but it's what it is.
Millage is below my 300Tdi, but I would say around 20MPG

Somebody knows if importing a Series diesel is somehow simpler than importing a Defender into the US?
