Well, it ain't a Harley, so can you believe it's a CRD? I saw a motorcycle once with badges that said, '4x4' and 'turbo.' It was neither. And just yesterday I saw a Mitsu with the MB star on the front. Didn't mean a thing...:)

Seeing how he's in Germany, and the JK has Euro plates and a rear bumper, I'd believe it that it's a CRD.

The grass is always greener.... When we lived there, it seemed all the Germans wanted were old US muscle cars and Hardleys. Here, all we want are all the cool stuff they have there.

Sorry, we've got it better in the states and I'm not really upset with with the economy of my JKUR (21+ mpg on the freeway (autobahn) and 18 in town). Modern diesels are not that great and don't offer much advantage over gas IMO. Old diesels that will run on anything combustible, that is another story.

EC COMBINED MPG (L/100KM) (STANDARD AXLE / OPTIONAL AXLE) 34.9 (8.1) 34.9 (8.1) 34.0 (8.3) / 32.1 (8.8)
EC EXTRA URBAN MPG (L/100KM) (STANDARD AXLE / OPTIONAL AXLE) 39.8 (7.1) 39.8 (7.1) 38.7 (7.3) / 35.8 (7.9)
EC URBAN MPG (L/100KM) (STANDARD AXLE / OPTIONAL AXLE) 29.1 (9.7) 29.1 (9.7) 28.2 (10.0) / 27.4 (10.3)

According to jeep.co.uk (http://www.jeep.co.uk/wrangler/specs/performance?) that's not exactly true.

As for gas mileage... I'm usually able to eak out 19MPG of highway driving if I baby the crap out of it. 19.9 was my best when doing 60/100. Did manage over 22 once however I never went above 80kph.

I must drive like a total grandma b/c I got just about 18 mpg towing a 2400lb trailer yesterday up and over 3 passes. With a dirt bike on a hitch carrier, I got 23mpg as well, but that was going REALLY slow due to how curvy the road was.

I just don't think there is a huge advantage of a diesel in general. If you cross reference how much more expensive diesel fuel is here in the States, and in Germany it is about the same as Gas, that extra economy doesn't end up gaining you that much, thus why I said it doesn't really seem like something worth whining about not getting here. Plus, the newer diesels with the very sophisticated emissions systems are finicky to the quality of the fuel, so for a crazy around the world trip, you'd want something easier. For N America, it seems that Gas is just as if not more available than diesel, and if gas is cheaper, the economy doesn't gain much. And for the JK specifically, are all the important Rubicon toys even available? i.e. Dana 44s, 4 to 1 transfer case, lockers, sway bar disconnect? When I went to the Frankfurt auto show last year, these options were not available with the diesel. So again, it seems like a worthless want to me. But that's me...

Drive it a while and see if your still running and getting those numbers after 150K miles on it
I just don't think there is a huge advantage of a diesel in general. There is. Do you think its an accident that all over the road trucks are diesel? If you cross reference how much more expensive diesel fuel is here in the States(Because we allow our govenment to tax it so it becomes such), and in Germany it is about the same as Gas(Its less than gas, even less than E-gas but not by a huge amount), that extra economy doesn't end up gaining you that much(If your one that has a fat wallet than maybe you won't care. My paycheck is pretty small and I prefer to not give it to some country I will be sent to blow up soon), thus why I said it doesn't really seem like something worth whining (Whining? Funny, I didn't see that anywhere.)about not getting here. Plus, the newer diesels with the very sophisticated emissions systems are finicky(somewhat true but due to us allowing the Gubment to mandate stupid emissions crap) to the quality of the fuel(try running your JK on old gas lately?), so for a crazy around the world trip, you'd want something easier. (<could be if we "whined" enough about it) When I went to the Frankfurt auto show last year, these options were not available with the diesel. So again, it seems like a worthless want to me. Not bashing you... its your opinion and I defend your right to offer it. Just wanted to add some input on your post.
