need ABS sensor help for converted van

I have a 2000 E350 with a 2006 F350 front end. I recently replaced the wheel bearings. The abs sensors that come with the bearings are made to plug into an F350, but won't plug into an E350 due to both plugs being male. Unfortunately, the old sensors were junk due to melting out from brake heat. So I bought 2 sensors for an E350 and spliced the wires to the F350 sensor. I spliced the black to the black and the white to the brown (the E350 sensor does not have a white wire, just black and brown). After driving the van for a few minutes, both the ABS light and the brake light came on, so obviously my ABS is not working. Even though the van still stops, the wheels will lock up on a hard stop (ABS). Not exactly what I want since I often drive in winter conditions, so putting a piece of electrical tape over the light and calling it good is not an option. If anybody can chime in on how to fix this, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

Got the same problem with a spliced wire and was planning to find a new wire that I didn't have to splice. I was also told that with the right code reader it will tell you which side has the problem. Haven't verified that yet. So interested to hear what others say.
