Need comfortable shocks

Hello,
I need to get a more comfortable ride with my 1991 Montero LS. I've had kyb gas adjust shocks for 20years and the ride is much too stiff for me now. They are not adjustable, just the name of the kyb model. I need suggestions for what to replace these shocks with. Something that drives smoother over dirt roads that I don't feel every washboard bump in my back and head. I've never changed shocks, but looking at my setup, it looks pretty straightforward, no springs or struts involved. Are special tools or tricks needed to do this myself. Any suggestions on replacement shocks and diy installation, would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

KYB has always been my go to for shocks, being reasonably priced and performing well. If'n you are referring to the white shocks, those are the firmest ones they have. Maybe try the silver, still tight, but not as firm. If that's not what your wanting, Holstein makes great shocks, but at two-thirds times the cost of KYB. Been using both companies for 30+ years, not familiar with others. Hints, spray some pb blaster or whatever your nut-busting, rust-loosening chemical of choice is on all the fasteners.

I have the white kyb's and they are definitely stiff. They work better than Metamucil! I'll have to check out the silver's or bilstien equivalent.

No matter the shock, I haven't a care when I have oem bouncy seats... honestly, bouncy seats will make all of the difference in your search for a much more comfortable ride.
