Need creative minds on mounting a rtt

I'm in the design process of my trailer build. I want to mount a Expedition RTT on top of my trailer in the same concept as the Campa trailers where the tent sits on the trailer lid then can be telescoped up 3ft on 4 posts and locked in place. I'm thinking of using 2" square stock then inserting a smaller stock and repeating this a 3rd time till I reach my desired height then locking it with a pin in each section . I'm not sure if something already exists . Thanks for any input. Sorry if sound crazy LOL.

Wall thickness of the tubes and the amount of sleeved tubing that remains between sections is obviously very important. But maybe more important is, how will you raise this up to be able to insert the pins? if the rtt is 100 lbs that is 50lb per person at a potentially awkward angle. alone it could be darn near impossible.

I know the angle will be awkward especially when by myself. I plan to hinge the top with a piece of angle bolted through the square stock . I plan to leave at least 6" sleeved and drill a hole and weld a nut on each section to help for rattling and to assist in the raising in case I can't lift it all at once. Do you have any suggestions? Have you seen the Campa trailers the video shows the guy doing it effortlessly?

I would like to see such an option on my Horizon. Lifting a corner up a foot or 18 inches would be perfect. It is heavy but not "that" heavy to do it. Maybe small shocks would help with the lift then release for the drop? How about something with pins like the awning design only heavy duty. Why? Makes for a nice roomy annex underneath (or just a shady area) that one can walk under with sufficient clearance. Most annexes seem to be in the 6' height range so would otherwise drag excessively without a lift. I know it can be done because I saw a video of another trailer linked from this site where the guy just pushed up the tent by hand (don't recall make but they are nice).

The trailer you saw was at www.Campausa.com they look like an awesome concept and that's what I'm trying for. I know i can do it just didn't know if something already existed .

you mean like my old trailer.......

I used electrical conduit 2" and 1 3/4"....worked fine, enough flex so it won't bind, and lightweight.

Lift one end and pin, lift other end and pin if your alone....with two its easy..

Thanks great set up exactly what I want to do. Do you have much wobble when the tent is deployed? Can you take more pics ( close ups) of how the tent is mounted to the posts? How high is the base of the tent when raised? How can I see your photos is there a link?

There are so many great people on this site to toss around ideas with. Low budget to hi end it doesn't matter - we all seem to be after similar things. Life is too short not to enjoy a little playing now and then outside away from the hustle and bustle. I am confident somehow there will be a workable design lift for the RTTs "if" demand warrants such a kit.
