Need Ramcharger recommendations

Converting to FI is a great plan if you aren't in CA. It cannot be done without swapping in and entire FI motor from a newer year truck. Trust me I have been all over this with the smog referees! CA laws suck for motor upgrades. Swapping is about the only option and you have to be really careful and get every part of the newer donor vehicle's system, sometimes all the way down to the fuel pump. Only exception to this is the GM E-rod motor. God bless GM for doing that. Its the only motor that is CA smog legal to put in any year vehicle currently on the road.

Colorado Bill, I know that RC's aren't great on gas. My '77 Dodge W300 with 4.88s, full time 4wd, and a walk in service body returned 3 mpg highway. What kind of range and combined mileage is your FI truck getting with the 3/4-ton gear?

Pics of what I'm looking at:

With 4.10 gears, FI and OD auto I get around 12-13 in town and on the trail, low range drops it to ??? (don't even want to know). On the highway at 65 I get anywhere between 15-18 depending on how many hills. If it has to shift in and out of OD a lot it kills the mileage. I am very happy with the mileage I can go 300 miles on a tank in most conditions. If it looks like I will be in low range a lot I will bring along some extra fuel but have never had to use it.

I like that color combination on your truck. Looks great.

I made a deposit, most I could do following some emergency surgery for my wife. The grey Ramcharger will sit in my driveway in a short time, though. :)

Trials and tribulations bringing my new toy home today. Made it despite rain, a faulty tow dolly and running out of gas.

The Ramcharger will seat all my family, carry stuff, and pull the horse trailer (and other things) if needed. My intent will be for RV duties, sometime driver, and for something BIG. Since I swapped my 1-ton Chevy away and the plans for it died, another more family-oriented vehicle was called for. Once I can get rid of my motorhome and start to pair down the other vehicular residents here, my wife will be happier, too.

Happier still if I stop buying trucks every year...
