Need some input 4runner guys!

97 4runner

I recently upgraded to 255/85/16 tires on my v6 4runner with 4.10 gears. I usually got about 16-19mpg prior to the new tire change due to prior upgraded tire size and now I get about14-16mpg and about 220-240miles per tank. I do know my speedo is off by about 8%.

In terms of pricing, I would not focus on the color, but the features. Look for a 4runner with a factory e-locker. That option is worth about $1000 over any other option.
Also, in terms pricing, I paid about $6k for a rust free super clean sr5 in ATL about 2 years ago and spent about $4K on the build. I would consider looking down south to get a rust free vehicle as I used to live up north and know how rust can take a toll on vehicles.

Good luck, I love my 4runner, prices cheap and plenty of aftermarket parts.
Here I am somewhere in TN.

Mine is the opposite: Shows an empty tank when there is still ~3 gallons or so (this is in an 18.5 gallon tank.) On the most recent tank my low fuel light came on at 218 miles from the previous fill up (on my Tacoma, which had the same engine, same size fuel tank and a manual transmission, my low fuel light normally came on at about 265 - 300 miles.) I filled it up at about 245 miles and it took 16.5 gallons so even with the low fuel light on for 30 miles and the needle below the "e", I still had 2 gallons left.

I would also be very skeptical of those MPG numbers. I have a '99 with the same engine and tranny but no lift and slightly larger than stock tires (265/75/16) and I can get 17-20 on the highway, possibly even as high as 22 though that's rare. City mileage is much, much lower.

I filled tank last night and for a couple of weeks of city-only driving (which included a couple of days of short trips in 4wd since we had about 18" of snow on the ground) my MPG came in at a whopping 14.5!

I seriously doubt anyone can get 20mpg with that kind of lift and those big tires.

There's a TSB on that fuel issue - it's either the sending or the fuel gauge or both.

I like it, lil beat though. I'm looking for a overlanding vehicle. Not a wheeling mostly rig. Thanks though!
