I really hope some of you can give a honest advice my little problem of choosing a 4x4.
I live in Sweden and been looking for a 4x4 for a while now. The used car market is a bit limited.

I been looking at Mitsubishi pajero wagon 2008-2010 3,2 diesel facelift model with the better 190 horsepower engine. I can find one with 120000 km-20000 km for somewhere between 16800-24500 euro. Most of them are the versions with more equipment. I do not like the whey the backdoor operates. From what I heard its a reliable car but it also pretty hard to find aftermarket off road gear.

From the start I was looking for a Toyota Land cruiser 100 but they are rare and almost impossible to find and high price. The 4,2 diesel is really good, got lot of space and good reliability. I been looking for one with the 5 speed automatic gearbox.

Land cruiser 120 is like the mitsubishi pajero, I don't like the way the backdoor operates and the are too expensive to buy and most of them have a high milage. The 2003-2005 cost as much as the pajero wagon 16500-25000 euro with higher milage then the pajero.

The last car I been looking at is the LR3 Discovery 2006-2008 2,7 diesel HSE. Pricerange is like the Pajero wagon. The LR3 have more things that I like then the other 4x4. It feels more modern in many ways. The LR4 is out of my pricerange.
I wanted a newer automatic gearbox (6-speed with option to change gears manual), backdoor that opens the right way, real 4x4 and no haldex or part time 4x4, safe car, diesel. Good space. The car must be reliable but not bulletproof. I really like the LR3 but am a bit scared for it going to brake down and be a wallet killer. I look at some that the time-belt been changed on so I don't have to worry about that. I been reading a lot on different forums but don't get any smarter. Been readning about problems like:compressor, EGR, Parking brake, brakes, some problems with the front of the car. I havent seen so much about bigger problem with gearbox or engine? Another thing that I like about the LR3 is the terrain response and that the car is can´t be changed so much for off road and thats the way I want it. I don´t need any 6" lift or 35" tire. I want a 4x4 that can take me around summer and winter.

I want to make a tourer lite.

Bigger tires 31,5
Diagnostic tool so I can read faults and do magic with the suspension or diagnostic tool and some air suspension control
Front bumper perhaps with a winch.
End bumper
Rocksliders
Some underbody protection

Is the LR3 Discovery reliable and a good buy for my purpose? Is it better to buy one that have time-belt change (all that I been looking at have least 12000 km). It´s easy for me to buy parts from great britain. I also have a LR shop in Sweden or the german Discoparts.

We haven´t got so many Hummers and none with diesel engine. Want a 4x4 with with torque and that have better fuel consumption then a petrol one.

If Land Rover actual imported and sold their diesel variants in the US, they would have a very different reputation. This is primarily a US forum so most here won't be familiar with the modern Rover diesels, but a diesel LR3 sounds like a really good choice.

Also, with any brand diesel that uses rubber timing belts, timely changes are important.
