Some friends and I are planning a short trip the memorial day weekend. we are going to meet in the nevada city area on the 23rd in the am. we plan to run some of the trails from there towards N. Bloomfield. basically just spend the day exploring some of the trails out there. from there, make our way in to the town of Washington. the guys that are just going for the day will leave from there.

i have a small cabin in washington... some people are going to stay the night there with my wife and I. there is probably room for one or 2 people on the floor... or camping in the yard if people wanted. a couple thought they would camp in bloomfield or similar.

on sunday, we are planning on leaving the cabin and going up to bowman lake. again, just some basic exploring and such around there. there are a number of small lakes there id like to explore. i will likely head back to my cabin... others can get to 80 pretty easy from bowman and head back down the hill towards sac.

there are 2 other trucks confirmed. there are 4 maybes.

--I was just up there last week and the snow was pretty deep on the North/East sides, but it's melting fast, You'll probably get to the Malakoff Diggins--

--We were going to try Bowman lake from the Jackson Meadow Reservoir side (Hennesy pass rd.), but the state still had the road Physically closed, you probably can make it now--

--There's a lot of dry road, but when you go around a corner, you're liable to run into a SNOW BANK !!

--Anyway have fun, but be careful of the low water content snow (crunchy) near ledges and creeks--

Several years ago I explored this area in mid May, and crossed a number of those late season snow drifts. That is until I took a big one at speed, and got stranded with 3 wheels off the ground! OK, this was in a RAV4 which does not have exceptional ground clearance. After digging around a bit, I realized that the snow under the lower control arms was actually holding the wheels up. About then a lifted Tacoma arrived from the other direction. He pulled me on through the drift, and continued on his way. Now I had to work my way back through the drift, without getting stuck.
