New 2012 JK

My jeep is the sport, so Im pretty sure it has 3.73. As far a MPG I havent finished a full tank yet, but the MPG computer says it getting 16.5. But when i fill up I will check it. Still alot better than the 11 or so I was getting in my XJ.

I used to get 21 as an average with my stock JK with the 3.8L, 32s, auto ----- 26 on the highway if I nursed it and 18 around town if I hammered.
After the lift, 4.56s, 33s, bumpers, winch, that dropped to 16-20 or so.

With that new PentaJesus engine, you should do much better (I'd hope).

Use a gps to see if your odometer is true also. I had to correct mine.

Bill- I heard you were a little 'lost' w/o the JK, sorry the PW isn't doing it for you. Gonna go drive a 4 door today- kinda miss my '07 ;-) and the top off this time of year.

I like the PW but it's:
1) too big
2) too comfortable
3) too restricted on breakover angle
4) too expensive on mods and not enough choices...

If you get a JKU before me, I'm poking you in the eye... :ylsmoke:

I'm curious how it would tow the Little Guy... ...wonder if I could bring a trailer to a test drive?

In the configuration I ordered, there was no $50 option for 4.10 gears. As I said, Chrysler had some little glitches with the gear configuration at the beginning of the model year. I should be getting her next week some time. As soon as the engine is broken in, we can go for a little guy test drive if you want

An '11 or '12?

The Mojave doesn't do anything for me. It's just cosmetic. I had the Sahara and wouldn't pay extra for things like that again...

Ahh, but to be old and , well- let's just say old for now;-) JKU pulling JJ, this makes sense!! I am trying to get it all together to make the Elk run, and immediate plans for the JKU- LEAVE IT ALONE, and the JJ, well we need power, heat, water...

Hey, Bill:
Just so you know- I spoke with two senior techs at two different dealerships- both knew nothing of what the other person had said.
Both stated that there are many concerns about the 2012 motor in the jeep. Both stated that although the motor had been in other cars for testing- that in one model of chryslers, that the motor worked great, but in another model, they have been plagued with troubles.
There are two main concerns- 1) Low oil pressure and 2) Overheating
The techs both feel like there are some design challenges with the positioning of oil cooler lines and coolant lines in the truck. (i.e.- comments: "the old motor is tried and true- with no problems modifying with gears, etc. The new motor is not).

In the end, the incentives at 0% interest that they are offering on the 2011's and the discounts, made the choice obvious. I drove both trucks '11 and '12) and I couldn't really tell a huge difference.
For me the bottom line OVER the Land Rover- Option for open top enjoyment- Option to gear up for towing (which I did), option to pull grades slow but be in a 20 year newer truck with a warranty! I'll take running in the slow lane for that newly discovered level of comfort!!

Yeah, I like JKs; but the Hemi and 5 speed have spoiled me.

I just drove a '12 JKU Rubi with 3.73 gears; lots better than the 3.8L, but I'd definitely need the 4.10s or deeper. The HP is improved over the 3.8L but the torque doesn't impress much. The new trans is very very nice, very very needed.

Good luck towing with the 3.8L and auto, no matter what the gears. Been there, dragged that, had the leaking trans lines, overheated trans, and frightened wife. Not going to try it again...
It really was that bad.
On the trails though, no problem. Simple matter to run circles around Rovers. :sombrero:

After 39 months with my 08 Rubi with the 3.8, auto and 4.10 gears and 24 hours with rental '12 sport with the 3.6 auto and 3.21 or 3.73 gears, I think that the difference is quite significant; not that much at take off, but specially on hills on the interstate. Cruising up I-17 from Phoenix to Flagstaff at 80 mph was pure pleasure with the '12.

Can't wait for my '12 Rubi to arrive next week :wings:

They had a '12 Sahara in tan at the dealer; 3.21 gears.
I think 3.73s come with the tow package and Rubicon. 4.10s are only available on the Rubi as an option.

You'll like the 3.73s with your little trailer, Michael. I took the Rubi on the interstate (80 mph, uphill) and it pulled fine at speed. I also took it on a few dirt hillclimbs which it loved; it didn't launch up them like the PW, but it didn't bog like my old 3.8L.
