New 98 ZJ.

Hello I just bought a 98 zj and I would like to lift it 2-3 inches. What are the best brands? Also does lifting it put any additional strain on the vehicle? Would it be a wise choice to get spring spacer? Thanks in advance.

Your jeep looks very nice. So I am planning on getting 2 inch spacers from skyjacker. The kit includes 4 hydro shocks. What is the difference between hydro and nitro shocks? How does the lift affect the vehicle? I would like to run 31's. Will the stock gearing be able to handle this?

I think I've read that Skyjacker shocks are too stiff for these vehicles-- apparently the company is geared toward big trucks.

There are plenty of other options. One spacer is as good as another.

Old Man Emu shocks are supposed to ride well.

I have done the F>R lift on my 94 ZJ which got me about 3.5" of lift. I have the V8 in it too. I am using the skyjacker hydro shocks and they are WAY too stiff of the grand. Rides similarly to a tank. You feel evey bump you hit. I would definately go OME if I did it again.

HIGHLY recommend you run far away from Rocky Road as a vendor. If you search around on the different Jeep forums, you will find the products are average but their customer service is horrible. If you have just about any problem, from shipping to parts not fitting to failures, you will basically be on your own and out any money you spent.

I would highly recommend talking to either one of these companies for straight, soild info and parts.

x2, on rocky-road. Too many quality companies out there to deal with one that has let its standards drop so low, for so many customers. :(

I bought from them in 2001 or so and had no issues, but a lots changed since then...and not for the better, believe me, AdventureMan.

VE2WHZ said he got 31's with a 2 inch spacers. So would I have to do some trimming, how does lifting the vehicle affect the suspension geometry?

Iron Rock Offroad is another good company, I have recently ordered their long arm kit for my ZJ. They have great customer service and appear to be very knowledgable. Also, as stated you can't go wrong with KOR either.

I currently have rough country springs with MX-6 shocks and am sitting around 3 1/4 all around. I like the ride of the rough country springs but have worn out my control arm bushings, so it was time for an upgrade.

There is a lot availabe for the ZJ, if you are patient and look around on the forums lots of people are getting rid of they're stuff due to upgrades and what not.

I'm a JK guy, so I can't offer any first-hand advice on your ZJ...but the guys that I know who wheel ZJ's have lots of good things to say about Iron Rock.

Yes you can clear 31 with some front bumper trimming but it varies from vehicle to vehicle. Some of the geometry will change slightly but it shouldn't be that big of a deal, just make sure your bushings aren't warn out etc..

I never had any dealings with the rocky road company. The lift sounds good and at good price. If there customer service sucks then yeah I follow what your saying.

I don't want this to become a RRO bashing thread, but its more than customer service. Its quality of everything:

-poor packaging
-poor/missing instructions
-lots of mismatched shocks/spacers/two lefts or two rights, or all front spacers, etc...
-missing hardware
-used parts being reused and sold as new.

-All these errors and the lack of quality service to remedy the problem is the "big" picture.
