New Beetle Baja Build

Great plan....to be really "volkswagon-ey" you'd pressurise the water tank with the spare tire :)

....the windshield washer on my old Squareback worked that way :)

once you delete the rear seat - if you build a false floor even with the trunk level, there should be quite a bit of room below the false floor in the foot well area of the back seat for a pressurized water tank.

also i'm sure you know how large the spare tire well is back there. (I have a 2000 1.8t NB GLX myself... - no plans to "baja" it though) you could fit a decent sized tank in there or maybe a compressor

Not really, it was before I was into posting a ton of build pics. Plus, I built this car for a customer to run ralling in the southwest. If you have questions, I can answer them though, might have some decent pictures too. If it wasn't for the cage in rally cars, they would make great Expo rides. That's why my Celica only got enough cage to protect my head and strengthen the rear suspension.

what do you think of putting a new beetle body on an old air cooled pan and making it rear engine?

Why in the World would you want to do that? When there is nothing wrong with the old body style.

beat me to the pic of the yellow beetle, if you really want 4wd, I know the old bugs you can throw the body on an s10 frame, might be able to throw the new bug body on an s10 or maybe an old jeep frame like a CJ5, just need to resize the frame a bit. would be pretty friggen sweet IMO. I have always wanted to do that with an older bug. heard the new bugs have a lot of overheating issues though...would be sweet to mix the three together, jeep/s10 frame, new bug body, TDI jetta motor. good MPG with mean offroad/on road capabilities. to make it even more like a truck I saw a beetle the other day, was a newer model, the back half of the dome was kinda chopped off and they turned it into a little super mini el camino type deal. no rear seats (obviously) and the continued the dome shape with the two roll bars...
