Just took of my 255/75/17 BFG MT's and replaced them with the new BFG KM2's in 255/80/17. My initial plan was to get some FJ TRD rims and go with the KM2's in 255/85/16. After some research on the sizes and the weights, I went with the 17" version.
Here are the specs on the three tires:
255/75/17 - 48 lbs and 32.1" tall.
255/80/17 - 49 lbs and 33.3" tall.
255/85/16 - 55 lbs and 33.3" tall.
After comparing the sizes, I figured for only a 5 pound weight gain, plus the savings of not needing to buy 16" rims, the 255/80/17 size was a winner.
I'm a huge fan of the original BFG MT's, and after about 50 miles with the new KM2's I think the old MT's may be quieter. I have not had any handling problems and no weird pull to the right like Redline. So far no rubbing, although the rear mudflaps need to go as they are hitting under full stuff. Having the front Shrockworks bumper helps a lot with fitting these tires, as they are tall!
Right now they are mounted on steel FJ rims for no other reason that I think they look cool:victory: I'm go to sand and paint my allows and will probably go back to them to keep my weight down.
