Hi all
I’m new here, names Kyle, and this will be my first adventure in building a camping/overland trailer. My Wife and Daughter have recently both begin to really enjoy camping and off-roading. We are down in the Houston, TX area.
I use to build my truck in to one capable rig, but now am shifting my opinion and think it would be better to have everything on one trailer that I can grad & go quickly and could be used with any truck I have now or in the future.
I recently bought a used fiberglass Utility Bed off a compact truck (ford ranger size) and will be building a trailer to mount it on. I have experience with fabrication but never build a trailer before. I can picture the final product in my head but I have so many questions and unknowns in my right now and will defiantly begin utilizing this site for help.
Just to list a few :
· Trailer breaks
· Fiberglass repair
· Square or rectangle tube; what thickness
· Tire size
· Axle and spring mounting
· Etc…..
Ill be pulling it behind a 2011 4 door, long bed Tacoma; so width and weight were my biggest concerns. We are estimating that the utility bed is 400-500lbs by itself.
attached are some pics of the utility bed and its dimensions.
If any of you have built one like this please let me know some of your tips/tricks/cautions.
