New camping trailer

Not quite an "expedition" trailer, but it's our new trailer to make camping with family more comfortable. It's a 2001 Casita 17" Spirit Deluxe. The goal is to make it a bit more off-road friendly, though.

Titan pulls it nicely. I can't even tell it's back there, it's so light. I would have to get a very dropped hitch for the Jeep, seeing that it's getting full-width axles and 37s now.

Casita's are top of the line in the "fiberglass egg" trailer world. Congratulations.

I looked at these as a serious option a couple of years ago. Lots to like about them, I hope it serves you well. Check www.fiberglassrv.com for mutual owners and their input.

You're really going to like the fiberglass egg version of camping - they make a very comfortable base camp.

I have a 1978 Boler that weighs right around 900 lbs. My 4-cyl diesel Defender tows it easily.

Nice.
Give us some details about the interior and the farkles (as well as your planned upgrades, of course).

So what are your plans to make if "off road friendly" is there an SOA in the works for it and bigger tires?

Mark

It has a torsion axle, so I would have to cut it off the frame and weld in some spacers. I think slightly larger tires will do fine to begin with, and some people add shocks to them to help with sway and ride.

These days, Oliver is actually the top of the line, as they are dual-walled with insulation, but that also makes them more expensive and heavier.

We took the trailer for it's maiden voyage this past weekend. From Reno to Pollock Pines, CA (Apple Hill). No offroad, stayed in a developed campground, but we wanted to see how it woks out for us before we try dry camping. It towed great over the passes, and we got 10.5 MPG towing it home (I get 12MPG around town). Hopefully, next time I will post pics of better adventures. :D
