Chrysler's mid-size Dakota pickup is making a comeback! This time, it falls under the Ram brand name (instead of Dodge), and it will cost less than the similarly sized Gladiator that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles sells through the Jeep brand. Unsurprisingly, the Ram Dakota will share its underpinnings with that Jeep and likely will be built in the same Toledo, Ohio, facility.

It would be more interesting if they kept the solid front axle.
Probably fair of FCA to recognize different target markets. IFS might hurt a truck's image but in reality for 99% of users* doesn't really hurt performance and the ride is better, which might actually decrease appeal to the "lifestyle" buyer that is the actual core demographic.

But the unmentioned variable - diesel?

*I include myself there. A solid front axle would be preferred but not absolutely needed.

I used to have an old 2002 4-door Dakota with the 4.7L in it. That was plenty of engine for that little truck! I would slide the tail on that thing all the time. It was actually a pretty fun little truck off-road. With mud-terrains and a winch, it was practically unstoppable.

Glad to see it making a comeback.

High praise coming from a Ford guy!
I'm an equal opportunity truck guy, lol. I've had Chevy, GMC, Dodge... Still keep coming back to Fords though. Ford makes the best trucks in my humble opinion, they work hard and complain the least. Every make has their share of issues though.

I wasn't saying that I'd run out and get the Dakota, especially if they come out like that latest picture with the Avalanche-look which is hideous!..I'm just happy to see more mid-sized options in the truck world.

Cheers, AV

I bought a brand new 2000 Dakota...it was such a POS that I'm pretty sure that I will never buy another Dodge vehicle.

Wow that last render looks like a Subaru Baja mixed with an Avalanche.

Unless they seriously drop some curb weight compared to the Ram, I'd just buy a Pentastar Ram.
