New Dodge build quality???

I've been a Toyota owner for years. But I'm looking at other options, specifically a Power Wagon w/ the 5.7L.

I'm curious to hear about the quality of the newer Dodge 3/4T trucks.

Any drive line issues?

How about interior build quality? Rattles, squeaks, etc?

Other problems?

I've only got a 1/2 ton, but I do have the Hemi, and I have been impressed so far. Much more plesant to drive than my 2003 F150, and so far I haven't had any issues with the truck that were serious. One computer reflash to correct a bad code making my engine light come on for no reason.

I've got about 20,000 miles on it now. I wish I had a Power Wagon though.

For every negative comment there are likely hundreds of positives not shared... AND, I was a big Dodge supporter owning a 1989 Dodge 1/2 ton, a '93 W350 w/Cummins, and a '95 2500/Cummins before buying a 1996 F350 Power Stroke.

My hunting buddy has a 2007 (pre 2007.5) 2500/Cummins that we used for hunting/off-highway travel this past year as my old truck was sick. It has a dash rattle coming from the passenger side that I find quite annoying. His truck has done this since new, and has about 20-25K on it.

My brother in law has a 2004 1500 Hemi, and he has been very pleased.
He purchased it new, has about 50K miles now in the Phoenix Arizona heat and has not had any trouble.

He tows an 8000 pound toy hauler trailer, and it does well.

That being said, you will not find the QUALITY of a Toyota in anything other than.. well, a Toyota.
Im a long time Toyota guy, but currently an older (99) Ford Expedition 4X4 5.4 liter with almost 100K miles and it has been a great truck.

If only Toyota would put a diesel in that Tundra....

I've got 55,000-plus miles on my 2007 Power Wagon. I put more than 25,000 of that on the truck since buying it just about a year ago.

I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

Only issues I have had are a leaking front pinion seal at about 40,000 miles, a slight weep from one shock absorber, and an intermittent failure of the in-dash nav system to read the database disk. I think that problem is caused by dust in the head unit.

The truck is just now beginning to develop a few, very minor, interior squeaks. But no more so than any other vehicle I have used for off-highway travel.

The Hemi is awesome. The cooling system is awesome. The electric front swaybar disconnect might be the neatest thing on the truck. The lockers take a bit of a learning curve for maximum usefulness, but are a fantastic tool. The underbody armor is sweet. The nearly 500-mile fuel range is fantastic.

This truck is my daily driver, my overland rig, and my home-improvement hauler. Pretty good value for the money when you consider everything it does really well.

i too have a 07 power wagon and i would buy another one in a second i love it only a few things i dont like. when i upgraded to 35s my fuel economy went to hell. about. 400 miles or 350 miles. but other then that no problems.

and so far i have put about 21747.9 miles on it since i bough it........ damn loved going over seas for 8 months just after i bought it. lol.

its been across canada 3 times with no issues... going to go to the artic circle in the summer.

except for a minor click to clunk to grinding.......... and all the dealers say is its just the tires.......... and i know its not.

other then that no issues.

I have a 2004 1500 5.7 with almost 70k that probably 40% of that has been offroad miles and its been a champ. The power wagons are well built and there are no blaring issues to be concerned with. Most problems that are common with the 2500/3500 can be attributed to having a CTD.

The suspensions are great to work on too. You can get 35's on there with out any modding and 37's with a small suspension lift.

Interior is pretty good for the 02-05 but some people complain that the 06-08 are a little rigid. Personally, I don't see a problem with them. No squeeks or anything yet on mine and I've done my fair share of hucking with it.

The winch on the PW is pretty stout too but I'd highly suggest switching it out to synthetic.

The only complaint I have about the PW is that there aren't any aftermarket diff covers available that give more protection.

I had a 05 Dodge Power Wagon. I loved it! I needed a 1 ton though since I have a Snowcat business and needed a better tow vehicle. My snowcats are in the 10,000 plus range. The 3/4 ton Power Wagon is a step between a 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton truck in towing ability. A 7,000 to 8,000 lbs trailer is about its safe limit But the Power Wagon is 100% bad MMMMM! I wish I still had it................... I hope they still make them when im ready to buy my next truck.... Get one. You wont be dissapointed. Now if they would only make that package available with a diesel and 1 ton towing ability.........:bike_rider: :smiley_drive:

Thanks for the info.

My local dealer has a 2009 PW that's been on the lot for four plus months, and it's now discounted 9G off the sticker at $36,800.00. If it's still there at the end of the month, I'm gonna offer them 34 for it, willing to go up to 35 :sombrero:

What dealership is it? I'm not interested in buying but was going to suggest checking out Click down in Tucson. I have a couple friends down there and they've always treated me very well.
