New Ford Tremor

All true.

Yet the industry analysts believe that Ranger sales were absorbed mainly by moves to half ton trucks, primarily the F150. We're only talking about the majority. I'm sure there were plenty of former Ranger owners that showed up at Toyota dealerships to buy a Tacoma. But not in any significant numbers.

Yeah, probably only a minority went elsewhere. Still the F150 doesn't "do it" for me for some reason. but the GM 1500's do. *shruggin shoulders*, even though
I like the '14 styling of the GM....still not crazy about it. Preferred the previous generation styling better, it was not so "in yer face" if you know what I mean.

The ecotech engine specs look impressive. The rest of the truck (meh) when it comes down to it.

Still don't know if I could leave Toyota after owning them for 25+ years...the Tacoma does need some improvements for me to stay. Liking
the specs on the Nissan Frontiers.

The Ranger will be back.

Rumor or "I know a guy at head quarters"?

Meanwhile, Ford continues to build their lead -- and dominance -- in the full size truck market. And that's terribly important.
Ford and GM make more gross profit from full size truck sales than ALL of Toyota's sales in the US combined. Let that sink in for a bit.

How much are fleet sales?

Where is Toyota in the Global Market vs. Ford? (curious) since your math is waaay better than mine. :)

Personally, I think all the pickup truck manufacturers are making a mistake by continuing to style their half ton models like miniature Peterbilts.

Yes, totally agree with you there Mr. Haven...it is like their target consumer needs to make up for something. I do like the Global Ranger styling over the F150
since it is less machismo.

Rumor or "I know a guy at head quarters"?

Doug Scott at Ford has stated it publicly several times in the last six months that Ford will have a smaller pickup for the US market with a 1000 pound payload and a 3000 pound tow rating that gets better fuel economy than the F150 while costing considerably less

In the US market, Ford has a few more fleet sales than GM, and GM has more than Toyota. If you strip out true business fleet/government and focus on rentals, Toyota takes over #2. They are all pretty close.

It would take me too long to calculate the gross profits of different model lines across the globe for two brands. All I do know is that Ford and GM sell 1.4 million full size trucks in the US, and Toyota sells 1.8 million total, and Ford and GM generate more gross profit from those 1.4 million full size truck sales than Toyota makes on the entire 1.8 million. The gross margins on trucks are huge.

Heck, you could almost do that with a Taurus, couldn't ya?

Towing 3,000 pounds is easy with most larger turbo4 or V6 cars

1,000 pound payload?? I think you'd be surprised how many full-size trucks don't have much more (some aren't even 1000!)

It's not all about pounds.

Here are some <1,500 lb things I'd rather haul in a small truck than a Taurus:

Muddy mountain bike
Stinky hockey goalie gear
Lawn mower
A set of 4 car tires and wheels
A couch
etc.

A compact / midsize truck is a compromise. It's a vehicle that does a lot of things fairly well, rather than just doing a couple things extremely well.

Anyway...back to the Tremor...I dunno, kinda of lame package. Who thinks this crap up anyway?

I like the look of regular cab, short box, full size trucks. I'm on board with any package that motivates people to drive those around.

I tend to see a few GM trucks in this configuration, but rarely a Ford.

I think Ford wanted to sell more single cab F150s, so they dressed one up using parts already in production. It looks like a nice enough truck. I think they will sell lots of them if they hold down the price.

Is the regular cab pickup doomed?

The Tunda RCSB, is the most practical out of the bunch. At least there is some usable space behind the seats.

I am a fan of regular cabs too...even with long beds. They are a bit unpractical for my needs, really like having an extra cab, after owning
several regular cabs over the years. Don't think I'll ever own one again. "Maybe" a Tundra...since it has about the same amount of room behind the seats
as my current extra-cab.

It either needs to be lowered, with a street AWD themed sport truck.

Or raised a tad, specced with more dirt oriented tires/rims...seems like it is in some weird middle ground to me. Console auto is kinda lackluster, if you're a gonna do that...make it a manual.

Of course what tends to popular, I usually don't "get it".

this...2k payload...

guessing the "new" US Ranger is going to be like the Aussie Falcon, according to what Kaisen said the specs are.

Am I in the ballpark Kaisen?

maybe a little lift like the manufactures do to car based cross overs...hmmm
