Now we're talking, gear to actually get a little excited about, new tripods! It looks like Gitzo took the best of their Mountaineer series and combined it with the tech from their 1581OT ocean traveller tripod. I work with water a lot but the 1581OT just wasn't the right fit for me, but these new options have really peaked my interest.

Nice find! From the spec sheets, it appears that these tripods are a little too long to fit inside a carry on bag (22 x 14 x 9 inches) without removing the head and fitting it diagonally in the bag. I'd like to see a carbon fiber tripod that fits parallel to the long side of the bag to make more room for other gear.

I used to carry a tripod in the open onto the plane, but the TSA stopped that because it might be used as a club!
