im thinking about putting some fog lights or a rack up there. but honestly i havent discarded the idea of changing trucks. only itd be a huge loss of funds tomdo that. great truck, but i really love the camper. these are the terrible problems one has to face in life......

I gotta an idea from a fellow Canadian ... discard the camper ... I know a guy that will come and take it off your hands!:ylsmoke: I would give my right arm to get to get my hands on one of those things. They are rare as hens teeth up here

ps; btw, ramblingman, i know youre right. i couldnt believe my luck when i saw an fwc for sale via the internet. it was being sold not far from my home and i bought it over the phone that same day even while still travelling in asia. thats also why i made a slight mistake in choosing the truck, but i wont be selling off the camper anytime soon...

Lol! I thought that may get your attention. Edmonton is my home base. I try to be on the move as much as possible. For some reason I just found about FWC's in August (I am embarrassed to say) Since that time I missed one just an hour a way from my house, one in Kingston and another in Kimberly. They go really fast. Almost the same day. Unfortunately, If I am not on the road I am working which makes it really hard to drop what I am doing and go pick up a camper.

Right wrong or otherwise I hope to be ordering a new FWC soon. :)Wow1:are they ever expensive) I got the bug bad.

Dude, I would not sweat the fit of your camper. I would just be happy you got your hands on a used FWC and think of a cool way to use that extra storage space.

I have a 98 Chev Z-71 that really needs to be sporting a Hawk. Its been a really great truck and has taken me all over Western Canada without any issues. I hope to drive it in to the ground (I imagine that will be easy with an FWC as I will want to be on the road even more!) Then who knows maybe upgrade to a 3/4 Ton.

I would do as others said and put a small rack under the cab over. You could cover the sides of the rack with something solid so it appears that the cabover is just slightly thicker. Could store camp chairs or fishing gear or whatever up there.

+1...the silver lining to the grey cloud you thought you had :sombrero: . I was actually happy to get that same space with my Fleet on my Tacoma although I haven't yet gotten around to installing a hanging box or one better, the Aluminess tray (inside access) like Hallmark and XPCamper use.

See all those bags on the ground? They could easily be stowed in a compartment between the cab and the camper (albeit in different bags like square plastic bags or boxes which store clothes under a household bed) which would save me the daily chore of loading and unloading them in the interior of the camper.

dear clever;
i gotta tell you, the folks on the site with 'the gap' have made me feel good. and ive already bought a rack to put on the cab of my truck. my campers off right now, so im kind of waiting for when i put it back on before installing the rack. its already really cold up here, not very conducive to tripping around. my hawk has the 'arctic package.' but i just havent felt like using the thing, pretty comfortable in my home right now. im supposed to go to southern ontario around the 19th nov. i guess thatll be my first time checking it out in winter conditions.
thanks for your message, clever, your rig looks way cool to me. love the slightly lifted tacoma.
sincerely; nathan.

so now im quite alright with 'the gap'. its not as much since i took the mat out from underneath. my camper isnt on the truck right now, but will be soon and im gonna put something in 'the gap'. i took in all the advice and kinda still wondering whether to put some sort of rack or lights up there. any opinions on that? it should have some use of course. its cold here now in quebec, dont feel much like tripping, but might change my outlook if i hear that folks like camping in their fwcs in winter xonditions. i do have the arctic package. any ideas about that?

That's not a gap.

Thats not a gap, that's additional storage space. Which you will find is a precious commodity

I was gonna say that you need to contact this individual. Seeing his FWC in person and the mods he has done such as this and a wind dam make me want an FWC if it weren't for the cost...one day!

retreat, to fight another day.

i may be losing this battle...
a fellow near me wants to purchase my camper, if his wife agrees. he wants it badly, owns the perfect truck for it. of course his wife may be a 300 lb mama who wont fit through the fwc door, let alone sit on a porta potti. but, if they want it i will sell it. then i will buy a cap and outfit it myself with some of the cool ideas ive picked up on this and other sites. and i will get an fwc again some day, the perfect one for the perfect truck...

Besides ... you should sell it to me!:)

hey rambler: if the lady nixes the deal, its yours if you really want it. otherwise, ill be tripping with it down south in a while, to sell, or not. what youre saying is perfectly correct, but there remains a 2010 mint fwc hawk available here to purchase in the ottawa area...
