Another new 3Gs owner here. Got it on Friday, so far I am really digging it. The application store is pure overload, just too many to choose from. :sombrero:

So how did you pull off the Teher?

The 3Gs Tethers. http://www.apple.com/iphone/iphone-3gs/
As far as the capacity issue.. a large portion of the back end network stuff comes through my office. They are spending hand over fist to up capacity. Fed Ex has been buying destroying that equipment on a regular bases by not strapping it down LOL.

I'll be ordering a pair of them in the next couple weeks. First new phones for my wife and I in about 5 years. No really I carry a 5 year old Nokia. Wife brok her V3 That I won in a sales contest) when it was over 4 years old and is now using our back up phone Ericsson s710a (that I also won in a sales contest 5 years ago) that has been sitting in a drawer unused for 4 years. LOL

My attraction to the iPhone is the lack of moving parts. I will be buying Otter box cases for both. http://www.otterbox.com/

I am/was a certified bench tech for several cell phone manufactures and by far the biggest failure is anything that moves. Flips, keypads and retractable antennas accounted for about 75% of the failures I saw that were not liquid related.

The head dude at Nokia once made a comment about the Matrix phone as the US carriers were pushing for it "You Americans are rough on stuff". The US never did get that exact phone. That's why it was so long before Nokia offered a flip or offered the US market the 9000 series (the Saint phone).

We were AT&T customers 4 years ago before switching to Verizon. We were hesitant to switch back to AT&T for a few reasons (cell coverage, customer service, etc.). We also knew/know the iPhone is a mediocre phone, but a very neat little computer. As a lifelong Mac user (have never owned a PC) it only made sense to go with an iPhone over some other type of computer-phone.

June 20, the day after the retail introduction, we purchased two new 32 gig phones. One and a half hours before closing on Saturday night there was no line at our local Apple Store. Less than an hour after walking in, I walked out several hundred $$ poorer ☺

We love them. My wife, who is not a big computer fan, loves hers! I like having iCal with me all the time, very helpful and efficient to always have my calender with me.

I didn’t think I would really use the video feature much but used it a few times this weekend with very positive results. Of course waiting for the third gen iPhone before joining the club meant we got lots of bang for our bucks. Now the goal is to not break it, and make it last a couple years. :sombrero:

I just got back from a trip through Death Valley and Yosemite. At the start of the trip, we turned off the GPS unit. I was navigating and I only used paper maps and my new iphone 3GS. I thought it was a great tool.

I have the topo program loaded, but didn't use it much. I ran out of time to load all the quads I needed for the trip. We were covering a lot of ground and loading the quads one at a time is very time consuming. Since we were out of cell phone range for about 95% of the trip, it doesn't work to load the quads as you go.

I did use the compass quite a bit. The ability to get a simple lat/long at the bottom of the compass was great. I used that a couple times. It was also great to be able to look things up when we did hit the occasional cell coverage. I would save up questions about things we had seen and then google them when I could. Very neat. I used the inclinometer app once to find a level piece of ground to park the truck on. Worked well.

My company uses Verizon so no Iphone for me.

I do own the Ipod Touch 16GB. Great portable computer IMHO. I use mine regularly to check things online although using it for online forums is prohibitive at best due to the small screen and onscreen keyboard interface. I also rarely use it for music because I already have an ipod nano in the rig for that... simply because it's a ssd versus a disk or other mechanical device.

I do wish they'd offer the gps in their Touch. Perhaps in the next generation.

Oh, and fwiw, even though I'm right brained, I am not a Mac person simply due to the exhorbitant cost for one of their laptops.

I get jealous whenever I use my friend's 3Gs. Much faster than my 3G, it seems. Also love that video capability.

That is true, BUT look at the resale value. I have a 4 yr old PC laptop that I'd literally have to give away. But my 2006 iMac still fetches good $$, which makes up for the initial price. And we won't even go into the other stuff. :D

I didn't think I would like or care about the video capability but I have used it several times now.

Another 3GS owner here - it sits in a Ram Mount on my dash and I've wired it up to charge and play music through my head when in the car. I quite like the video feature too - looking to use it on a trip I have coming up in a week to see if I can put a short clip together :)

Thought I'd bump this thread back up...

A couple days ago I bought my first iphone...a 32 gb 3gs....and.....:wings:I dig it!

What sold me on this were several features. Internet connectivity, camera, the available apps, touchscreen interface, maps, and the biggest one- 32 gigs (Approx)of music storage. The Bluetooth feature works great with my new truck. Listening to music and a call comes in? Push the button on the dash and the music fades out. Now you can talk hands free. Too cool.

Yesterday I ordered this phone holder-

I had one like it before for my old mp3 player, so hopefully this one is of decent quality.

What accessories have you purchased that you are happy with?

I would definitely recommend a case cover for it. Mine is made by ifrogz and has saved my phone numerous times from chips and cracks. iPhones seem to be very slippery and I know most have dropped theirs at least once. This case is rubberized so it stays put better on tables and in the car, too.

Are you new to AT&T? I've been using them for 2 years and not impressed. Worst coverage and dropped calls constantly. Didn't experience this with Verizon, Sprint or TMo. I hope TMo gets the iPhone soon or I might be jailbreaking.

Agreed. AT&T phone coverage is much worse for me than Verizon that I just left in June. AT&T better improve coverage or watch out if/when other carriers are allowed to have the iPhone.

Still, I love the little computer, calender, video camera, etc., that is my iPhone:).

My Speck candy shell case just saved my phone (again) from a 3-ft drop onto pavement.

I just put an Otterbox Commuter cover on my Iphone and have to say I love it.

Its more streamline than the Defender and slips in your pocket easily. I tend to be careful with my electronics so the Commuter should be fine for me.

The new cover makes the phone a bit too tight to fit in my beltclip case, so I'm stretching the case out overnight with a wood block.

Together with my new Macally Iphone holder, I'm really liking my Iphone.

Does the I Phone 32GS have Flash Reader? I ask this because I was under the impression the HTC Tilt 2 was the only one that does have it, which essential for me in my travels (to access certain sites).
Also, I can't properly operate the touch screen keyboard on a IPhone.
