I didn't realize the shifter on the JL is basically worthless and probably there just to maintain the image of the status quo. It would be better to just eliminate the shifter and have another storage compartment or a dedicated spot to mount things there like a HAM radio or GPS tablet where the shifter is now. But I guess Jeep thought they wouldn't sell without a joystick in the center instead of a push button shifter on the dash.

After watching a couple JL videos I am loosing interest. Lotsa cheesy cutting corners is what I am seeing. Looks cool though.

Funny you say that. I chose to get another JK because I like to feel the ******** into gear. Unfortunately this is the way auto makers have gone.

Are you talking about the auto transmission shifter? It looks like it still has a proper transfer case shifter. I assume since they still have stick shifts that sharing (or at least similar) the center console is probably cheaper than having two different ones.

Do any of you actually own a jl? I do I also had a jk for 10 years and a tacoma for 3 years. Hence my name. I also am a geologist and work off. Road alone and in the sticks
so here is my real world assessment of the shifter. Based on personal experience with the 3 vehicles above. And 40 years of off road work. The shifter is excellent. It is smooth and firm leaving no doubt about the engagement unlike those. Silly twist. Knobs. Or push buttons My first car was a 57 Plymouth fury with a push button trans. Not much tech advance. I like the shifter on the jeep it is solid. And smooth. The low range is very good for slow controlled driving. In treacherous traction conditions. Like snow where the bottom is melting. Creating mud beneath the snow. I have 16,600 miles on my jl it is a rubicon 4 dr it is the best off-road capibile vehicle I have ever owned period. And there have been a lot. Starting with a Jeep cj7. Including. Bronco blazers. 4 runners suburbans jeeps and a 100 series land cruiser. That’s my assessment. From a real world owners perspective.

Yeah sweet Black with those big fins... Sold it pretty quick and got a covair cosair 4 speed with 4 single barrel carbs sweet little car and it was a sleeper for sure as many kids in my high school found out.

Pretty sad that they crushed a pretty decent looking classic to make that ad. Hmm... I wonder if the headlights turning on while being crushed was a nod to 'Christine'?

I was thinking Terminator, but that works too! Yeah damn shame they crushed what looked like a nice original Gladiator. Top 5 all time favorite body styles....was hoping they would of slapped on the retro styled front clip since they called it Gladiator and not a Scrambler.

Oh well...

except for the hood scoop that looks much better than what JEEP is producing. The Gladiator is a truck based off the FSJ platform, the Scrambler is a truck on a wrangler platform. If you're going to sell yourself as a company that values its history, at least keep the family names correct.

As good as that looks, if there is truth to the gladiator requiring smaller grill slots than the JL for more airflow then I doubt you can get away with closing off more than 50% of the front end.

You can get the M715 kit for the JK, guessing they'll have them for the Gladiator/JL.

It is a smidge different than what was on the Jeep concepts.

That video of them crushing the vintage Gladiator was a bit of a kick in the nuts.

Kinda like the Jeep version of the M715 better, has integrated turn signals, and the headlights aren't frenched as deep. Though... make mine the electric razor version. :D
