So I've been lurking on this site for many months after stumbling on it when doing research on my previous Nissan Frontier.

Well, long story short the 09' Frontier CC 4x4 was traded in and the equity I had in it = a paid off 99' 4runner SR5 4x4.

Details on the 4runner: 1999, 3.4, auto, 4x4, SR5 trim, Desert Dune over Oak, black flares, E-locker, pwr everything including sunroof, factory mats, factory tow (doesnt look like its ever been used) all books and probably a few other doo-dads.

Unfortunately it his a ton of miles at 164k so that is the downside of the whole situation. I didnt get any prior repair history either aside from a sticker for the timing belt at 95k and a starter at 161k.

It is however a local Oregon one owner vehicle that has excellent paint and body, all vin stickers are present and no door dings or rust. It had a factory bug gaurd and running boards since new and I think that saved a lot of the paint.

There were a few issues with the truck after I bought it and the dealer replaced the stereo with aftermarket, flushed the cooling system, and cleaned the MAF, all on their dime. When it originally went through the used vehicle inspection the dealer also changed the oil, replaced the power antenna, replaced front brakes and rotors, and air flilter.

The deal was completed on my March 31st. Since I have had it home I went ahead and did:

-Drained and filled oils in diffs, t-case, and trans.
-Bypassed factory internal tranny cooler and added a Hayden 677
-Changed plugs and wires
-Removed and cleaned t-body and ICV
-Replaced fuel filter
-Added OEM mud gaurds to work with the OEM black flares

Oh, and when I traded in my Frontier I had about 6k on the 265/75/16 Goodyear Duratracs and figured it was worth the extra $200 to keep them and have them mounted and ballanced on the runner.

Future: I would like to go with the OME 881/890 suspension package, but am debating due to the mileage on the vehicle. Not sure if it would be a waste. Also like the looks of the ARB Tacoma bumper that, but same dilemma.

Anyway, sorry for the long thread and detail. I couldnt upload pics for some reason but here is a link a picture of it on a 4runner forum. Mine is on post #2:

The mileage isn't very high on a 10-11 year old truck. I bought my 97 in Sept. 07 with 135K and have put just under 100K on it since then. At 233K, it's in the shop today getting the flexplate replaced. I replaced the radiator at around 200K. I'm considering a lift as well with that many miles.

Bottom line is you've got a solid 100,000+ miles to go on it with basic care.

To this point, I've put around $800 in repairs. That's not bad in my book for 3 years and 100K miles of use.

Sounds like it's been taken care of and has had maintenance done.

Thumbs up on the 99-00 with an e locker. I'm enjoying mine.

Yea I bought my 2001 4wd with 160k on it, put about 5k on it since and aside for regualr maintanance has been running like a champ, know on wood. Also just put a SS 1.2 lift on it, highly recommend it.

I have always owned toyotas and am still amazed with how a 10 year old vehicle with 160k miles drives/feels like new.

Just think pretty much any other manufacturer vehicle with that many miles would be close to the junk yard but toyotas are only broken in.

Cheers man you made a good purchase

Welcome to ExPo. Good choice and the 4Runner. I recently traded down as well. Had an '05 Taco D/C TRD which I loved but decided to to make a better financial decision at the time. Loving my '99 4runner though, the hardest part is getting used to the lack of power.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Today would have been a nice day to have an actual pick up, but the runner worked. Took 7 interior door slabs to the recycling yard and had to cut them in half and throw them in the back.

I am sure I will probably throw some lift under there at some point, gives me a good excuse to tell the wife that it needs a suspension refresh... I can do the install myself so that can save me a little coin.

I did look at the SS 1.2, but its a little spendy. Aside from spacer lifts, the OME seems to be the best bang for the buck. I am not looking to go huge either, just a few inches taller in case I want to upgrade to 255's or 285's.

Looking at possibly getting a small folding trailer of some type later this year or the beginning of next. I think the tow capacity is around 5k lbs, but realistically what would I want to tow considering the age and miles, if anything at all?
