New RTT mattress

The only downside: When your SO moves or gets in/out of "bed" you will feel it and visa-versa.

This is one reason I am trying to stay away from a single inflatable mattress in the RTT, right now I have 2 self inflating mattresses but they are a little narrow and my SO always ends up in the crack between them, im trying to figure out a way to secure them together to fix the issue.

I'm looking at a new mattress also. The Exped Mega duo would fit perfect, but also looking at the coil mattress. How durable is the Exped? I have a couple small/medium sized dogs that sleep in the trailer also, but would keep the mattress covered with sheets and a blanket.

I believe, relative to air mattresses anyway ;), the Exped Mega is well made from quality & durable materials. Having said that I did have a seam fail last year on my Exped Megamat 10; got to feel what sleeping on it without air felt like :D. Exped warrantied it without issue...it was 4-years old at the time of the seam failure and had seen considerable use in my LC and atop in my Columbus RTT.

The other, less talked about issue with any air mattress: Effective air pressure within the product (air mattress) is related to elevation. If you sleep on it at sea level and then roll to say 7,000' elevation, you will need to release a little air from the mattress (or visa-versa and inflate to compensate). Its not a big deal to me nor a deal breaker but something to consider just the same.

Ok remember I started this thread about a new mattress out there and available to us. I never have had any intention of using an air mattress in my rtt I wanted a mattress just like the original but better. I have now slept on my mattress from coastline about five nights and I must say I am very happy with it. The ordering process was a major pain and there seemed to be a few promises made that were never kept. Im glad I have my mattress and I would tell others to order from this company just make sure to communicate with Mitch through every step of the process to make sure you get what you want.

Yea, it sure did veer to a conversation about an air mattress. Did you receive the carpet kit with yours or did they forget it? Also, did Mitch shape it like the original mattress or is it just a square? Thanks for the input!

Mine didn't come with any kind of carpet kit it is just one big rectangle with no seam in the middle that fills my tent nicely.

I was really comparing the Exped vs the Coastline. It seams like those are the 2 non-foam options. I tried an Exped at REI, and it still was a bit concerned that with 2 people on the mattress + 2 dogs, I'd feel every movement through the night. Mitch got back with me Friday, so I just put in an order for the Coastline. Hopefully will get the mattress in the next 2 or so weeks.

I slept this weekend on my coastline mattress and am very happy. Communication is key with them, and they seem to be very busy. My first mattress was off on the measurements but they replaced it and threw in a fitted sheet for the trouble. Comfort is great for me-- I am a happy camper.

So a question for you guys that have the new mattress. We are heading to CO in September and will be in the tent for about 12 days with a hotel night about once. My SO likes a really soft bed (no idea what is wrong with her!!) and of course I am the opposite. I am thinking maybe this mattress over my ARB original will do the job. You guys think they will both fit when I fold it and has anyone tried both old and new for comfort?

Thanks.

I dont think both mattresses would fit, if they did, your bedding wouldn't. I'd suggest a self inflating mats for each of you so each side can be personalized to the sleeper and you don't disturb each other during the night.
