Very nice 109 it looks great.
But like already stated Land Rovers aren't for every one. I have had a FJ40 in the distant past as well.
there are always pros and cons to look at.
I do enjoy my 1963 109 It has defender vacuum assist brakes and a 2.8L ACR engine that spins 34 inch TSL's just fine.
You can modify to your hearts content if you are happy with the rig.

"I just bought some new take off Bridgestone U Groove 7.5/16s..."

Is that tire still in production and available in the US?

Where did you get them?

Thanks

The tires came off a 2011 HZJ79 that wasn't destine for the US that is for sure. However, things like that occasionally get misplaced and end up in US. I know where there are some more just sitting however access to them is not available at this time. I'm not sure they will ever leave their container.

How do you get away with the 34" TSL not rubbing the frame? I took off 255/85/16 BFG MTs because they would rub when you turned sharp.

Are the tires bias ply or radial? Tube type or tubeless?

The Bridgestone US website does not show them but apparently they are available in non-US markets.

Thanks

I've got a set of 34" TSLs as a second set of tires for my 109. They are on a set of rims that have pretty deep offset. That helps but there is still some rubbing. I just take note and don't overdo it.

They are mounted to stock 16X5.5 inch rims with 1 inch spacers to keep them skinny. Also I have 4 leaf parabolic springs in the rear and 2 leaf in front. It sits level with a 900lbs load in the rear.
