I just finished building my fold-out sleeping platform. Total cost was around $125 for materials, plus another $40 for some tools (hole cutting bit and router bits).

I used one 4'x8' sheet of 3/4" birch for the platform ($45), 4 ten inch turnbuckles ($12), a 6'x8' roll of indoor/outdoor carpet ($13), 4 U-bolts with washers ($8), 1.5" PVC pipe with caps ($12), one piano hinge ($10), one can of spray adhesive ($15).

The platform is in three pieces, a permanent piece in the rear that measures 55"x36" and two removable 48"x20.5" pieces that are attached together with the piano hinge to make a 48"x41" piece. This piece rests on the back of the second row seats when they are folded down. The rear panel is supported by the PVC, which is used as light weight legs. The total length of the platform is 77". I am 6'1" and i can fully extend
