A very cheap way to get GPS . . . assuming you're carrying a paid-for Windows computer anyway. ;)

Cheap versions of older versions of Streets and Trips go on sale periodically, and there've been many posts about its relative strengths and weaknesses. The general consensus is that it works OK and generally gets you where you'e going but has no particular advantage for overland use.

The trick here is that other sources charge more for a SIRF Star III USB receiver by itself than it costs here bundled with the software. It appears that if you need a GPS receiver, you'd be ahead to buy this package and toss the software.

Nice find.
GPS seems to have improved little in the last few years. I see no downside in the hardware, and little in the software.
